this report has been filed here:

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/230196

"As the name suggests, the notification area should be used for notification,
not as a permanent bloated icon panel. ( see
http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/2.0/desktop-notification-area.html )

If you use OpenOffice often enough, you want it to load fast so you might want
to use the OpenOffice quickstart option. But why oh why this implies that you
also want an icon in your notification area ? There is no intuitive link between
the concept of quickstart and notification area and this is a flagrant violation
of the Gnome HIG.

Having an icon in the notification area should be another option and not be
related to the quickstart."

Thanks you,

systray Quickstarter requires an icon by definition.
