As described in bug http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59551 the 
combining of text boxes changes them to bezier curves before combining. This 
is intentional. However from usability point of view it's not very useful. The 
combined boxes should become instead a normal text box with all the text in 
the boxes that were combined joined together by newlines.

This an obvious thing to do when combining text boxes instead of converting them to 
curves. Whether the boxes (2 or more) being combined are overlapping or not, the 
combined text box should be from x,y min to x,y max of the original selected group. 

Should the text be joined with a paragraph break between each text block, or as a single 
text stream? I think the latter may prove more useful.
