I had a lot of trouble assigning outline numbering to heading styles.
Intuitively, I tried to do this via the Styles and Formatting tab, right
clicking on the Style I want to edit and choose Modify.
There the Numbering tab was my first choice.
However, assigning a numbering scheme does not work to create an outline numbering.
I had to consult the help to locate the appropriate feature (tools->Outline
Numbering).

A simple message and link to the appropriate function in the numbering tab of
the paragraph style dialog could help many users to work more intuitively. The
message could look like this:

This paragraph style is currently assigned to the following Outline Numbering
level: none (button: click here to change).

Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
