Description zhangweiwu 2008-11-06 03:11:38 UTC
In OOO 3.0 (and all previous versions) in document properties, there is a tab
where user can enter 4 info fields. This is not enough for a lot of business
situations.

First: that's not enough:

e.g. a company may have an Info field for "Project Code", "Project Name",
"Security Clasisification" and "Status" (e.g. if should be archived or not),
quickly used up all 4 fields. Adding an "revision" and "Partner" (which company
also involved in using or creating this document) is not possible.

Second: there is space.

On my installation OOO3.0 on Linux/PowerPC, the space is available for up to 6
fields.

On the other hand in Microsoft Word there are unlimited fields for customized
key-value pair as document property. We used to use MSO manage our documents and
find we must cut away some fields when we switching to OOO.

I am sure this is not only a Writer problem, but not knowing where to file this
issue. Can you help me categorize this request correctly? Thanks.

hi zhangweiwu,

of course that document properties dialog is an atrocity. you can actually have
as many properties as you want, OOo will load and save them and make them
available in the API, but the stupid dialog displays only 4. OOo 3.1 will have a
redesigned dialog that is much nicer, and it can display not just 4. 5 or 6
properties, but as many as you want. (unfortunately, that dialog missed the OOo
3.0 UI freeze by a week or 2, and was thus delayed to OOo 3.1.)

btw, the correct category for things like the document properties that are
common across all applications is "framework".
