Description floeff+ooo 2002-11-28 15:42:28 UTC
I would like to see more "document locking features" integrated

Sometimes, you have documents, that

 I. should not be modified (view only)
 II. should not be printed
III. should not be copied to clipboard
IV. should expire after some time
 V. should have different passwords for view-only and editing mode
 VI. have non-editable macros

In all these cases, you have to distribute them as PDF in order to achieve this
security. I would like to see that incorporated in OO. The documents should be
encrypted as in PDF, whenever such a feature is set.

Florian, thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Marking as a feature request.

Sorry, posted the attachment to the wrong issue. Any idea on how to
remove it? :)
Comment 5 floeff+ooo 2003-01-11 12:11:24 UTC
Already any information whether this is fixed in the new release or not?
Comment 6 floeff+ooo 2003-03-26 17:09:30 UTC
Hello? Any news?
Comment 7 falko.tesch 2003-03-27 14:53:40 UTC
Yes, there are some.
I actually understand your desire but nevertheless your request is
very hard to implement.
Since OO uses XML (zipped) as its doc-format content (text) is always
accessible.
The only easy mechnismn to protect this content is to protect the
whole archive (aka zipped XML).
I. view only is achievable through file system protection
II. - V. These are very special features that IMHO reserved for a
special app like Adobe.
VI. That is possible.

MHU: Do you have any remarks on this?
Comment 8 floeff+ooo 2003-03-27 14:56:44 UTC
I'd suggest you compress and encrypt the XML content if "locking" is
desired, so reading by extracting is not possible anymore :)
Comment 9 matthias.huetsch 2003-04-06 17:20:20 UTC
Hi Florian, Falko,

Well, yes, I have some comments:

1) Encryption at the (zip-) package (*.sxw, ...) is already possible,
so Falko's comment '...text is always accessible...' is not
   exactly true.
The normal 'password protection' uses this encryption when
requested by the user. So what's missing is automatic encryption
   when certain features are present.

2) Most of Florian's special features could become possible with some
document signing features which are currently evaluated for
OOo 2.0 or later (Falko, please ask MMP about this).

3) Clearly this belongs into the 'Enhancement' category, and much of
UI review and design is needed. So I'm reassigning back to Falko,
who takes care of such things.

Hope that helps,
Matthias

Adding tentative target milestone 'OOo 2.0', but could be 'OOo Later',
as well.

FT->MMP: Please see comments from Matthias Hütsch. Thx.

I suppose this one belongs on your security zone.

Doesn't seem to fit very well into the idea of an open document format. ;-)
Closing this very old one...
