My father-in-law wanted to know if there was a way to do something in
OpenOffice.  So far as I can see, the support's *almost* there, but it lacks a
couple more things to make this go.

He once made a project summary page in Excel and had sliders for each of the
variables he wanted to test.  He linked the sliders to the appropriate cell via
rightclick->properties somehow (this is from his story to me), and he then could
slide the sliders and see visually in graphs how varying the varibles changed
the associated output (he had a pie chart or something and a spreadsheet behind
the scenes that carried out the calculations that the graphs relied upon).  I
think it's a really cool idea, but I couldn't find a slider control in the forms
controls toolbar.  I'd really like to see this in a future edition of
OpenOffice, since I can definitely see its utility, especially when presenting
things to management.

In a related note, is there a way to add externally-defined functions and
controls to Calc?  Thanks!

Do you mean the control that in German Excel is called
"Bildlaufleiste" which means "ScrollBar"? It would be very nice to
have it in OOo too. The importened property of this control is its
linking to a cell. So without any macro you can quickly run through a
wide range of numbers in the cell. This control is often used in
interactive exercises for pupils and up to now there is no way to
convert those sheets from Excel to OOo. Because such sheets are
recommended in courses for teachers, my colleagues demand for Excel.

Sowas ähnliches, ja.

Expanding this out, we should work on implementing new controls in
general.  All kinds of things could be extremely useful.

How about java bean support?  Maybe this could provide a good way to
do this with the java stuff in OO.

E.g. create GUIOOBean (has a GUI), and BEOOBean (back end bean)
classes, and then let people extend them?

Hmm.  Thinking about it, it might now be time for me to delve into UNO
and other OO-ness.  Anyone more familiar with it (that is to say,
familiar with it at *all*) able to comment how best this can be done
with existing tech?  If it doesn't require too much coding, maybe I
can code it up between bouts of homework.  ;)

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
