Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 100706
Paste Special - please allow to independently select link and format
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
When pasting from Calc to Writer there is no option to link and retain format (or paste unformatted). Instead you get unformatted text in table, which is useless in majority of usage cases. Please allow to select linking independently from format, preferably across all of OO applications.
I don't understand your request. You want to keep the format OR paste unformatted AND/OR link the data? Link -> Paste special: DDE Link/OLE object Format -> Paste special: RTF, HTML, OLE object Non format -> Paste special: Unformatted text. Please explain.
I want to paste link AND choose format. Repro: 1. Start Calc, type some text in any cell, apply some formatting. 2. Click Edit-Copy. 3. Start Writer, click Edit-Paste Special, select DDE Link, OK - you get unformatted text in table. There are cases when I do want formatting to be included and in majority of cases I do not want table.
Well after a short discussion with the DEV, I think we won't ever implement this (balance effort/gain). Such a clipboard format would mean that every cell would be transformed in to a text field. For now, a DDE field can only handle a range of cells0 and not every cell independently. And even if.... Selecting a row in Calc would give you Field1Field2Field3Field4 (without separator) in Writer. Selecting a column in Calc would ALSO give you Field1Field2Filed3Field4 (without separator) in Writer. Or maybe there should be a paragraph mark between the fields in this case... Nonetheless, reassigning... Who knows...
Éric, do you think that single-cell DDE link can be made special case and be pasted as text and not table?
Well (currently) pasted not. But a dirty workaround is to: - copy/paste as DDE - Ctrl+F2 -> Variables TabPages (you should see the DDE link you have copied) - Click "Insert" -> You get the link to the cell value as text field.
