The steps below is showing how to reproduce the bug:  
 
1. Go to the menu   
2. Choose  format from the menu 
3. Select character . The character dialog will appear .
4. Choose the second tab which is “ Font Effects†
5. Select anything from the Underlining drop list such as a single . Now , you 
   will see the text is changed with single underlining at the bottom center 
   of the dialog . 
6. Go to the “Position†tab . Now ,you will see the same text with the single 
   underlining . 
7. Go back to the “Font Effects “and Click on the reset button. Now , you will 
   see the text is changed at the bottom center to be without underlining 
   single.
8. Now , Go back and choose again the tab "Position". You will see the text  
   still with single underlining , although we made a reset in the "Font 
   Effects". Moreover, if you choose the other tab “Font†, you will see the 
   text still with single underling at the bottom center .  
 
The reset button is not working appropriately  .  
 
My configuration is
OOO 3.0.1  Window Vista
Laptop:Toshiba Genuine Intel CPU T2080 1.73 
GHzMemory: 2 GB

Windows 7 here with Build 9582.

The bug being reported can be replicated on my machine as well. Even though the underlining effect is shown in the bottom, the combobox for Underlining is said to be "(Without)."

Still Reproducible with server installation of "AOO 4.1.0-dev – English UI / German locale - [AOO410m14(Build:9760)  -  Rev. 1583418_2014-04-02]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile.

(a) Problem also in Draw, so I switch to that more general Component
(b) Problem not limited to font effects in Font format dialog, same with
    Format -> Character -> Position -> Superscript
(c) This problem seems to affect all draw dialogs with preview, but
    in some cases the problem is invisible because covered by othr
    bugs, I will submit additional reports soon.
(d) very old problem, already visible in OOo 1.1.5
(e) This is an UI problem

Reset the assignee to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
