Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 101172
"Insert Movie and Sound" option makes no sense in Writer, Spreadsheet
Last modified: 2014-02-23 12:58:12 UTC
The option to insert "Movie and Sound" or "Object > Movie / Sound" works as expected in Impress, but does not seem to make make any sense for other sorts of documents, and also does not work (For example Video inserts a black square in Writer which cannot be played, moved or resized) These options should probably be disabled or removed from the menu when not in Impress. Steps to reproduce; Open Writer Insert> Movie and Sound > Select a movie clip. Observe the resulting 'black square' which cannot be played, moved or resized (but can fortunately be deleted)
@ wg: Please have look. How has this been defined? To which OOo components does this entry belong?
It works for me with sound file (wav format) under Ubuntu with OOo 3.2rc3 and Dev300m69. I do not have movie clip in supported format to test with movie. Kind regards. JBF
Framework is correct, I think. But this is not a defect since it works as designed. If it makes sense to have this option in writer and spreadsheet is a challenge for the UX team.. Reassigned.
Pavithra 2012-09-25 21.31.00 UTC Having analyzed the bug report, now I would like to list the relevant details for easy reference. Title: “Insert movie and sound” option makes no sense in Writer, Spreadsheet Description: Problem with insertion of objects(Movie and sound) in Writer/Spreadsheet Status : Unconfirmed Version Number(Initially) : OOo- 3.0.1 Reproduction Steps : 1. Create a new Open Office Writer document and add some information in it. 2. Click on Insert-> Movie and Sound -> Select the required movie file and Observe the resulting screen My observation: I tried to reproduce the specified bug. After the insertion of a movie clip in Writer, a black screen is displayed. It could be moved and resized. Also I observed that Writer provides an inbuilt movie/ audio player that is used to play the required file being inserted in the document. After inserting the required movie, just click on the movie(black screen) so that it gets selected. After it is being selected, the player will be displayed at the bottom. We can then use the play, stop options to view the movie as needed. This works with OpenOffice Writer 3.4.1 Environment : Operating System – Windows 7 Ultimate Processor – Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz RAM – 2 GB System type – 32 Bit OS. As a result the specified bug no longer exists with the updated version of Open Office Writer
