Description rmjocz 2009-05-01 14:06:20 UTC
Hello
last time I installed OOo_3.0.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US
and I was suprised that my documets (with tables) are currupted when I am
saving in DOC format. MS Word Viewer reports problem while opening.

I removed this version and installed back
OOo_2.4.2_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US
and working ok.
Comment 1 murz 2009-05-06 08:26:02 UTC
Confirm this issue with OOo_3.0.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US and
GoOo-3.0.1-4.exe when exporting file in DOC format.
OOo_3.0.0_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US saves tables correctly.
With OOo_3.1.0rc2_20090427_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe tables saves good, but
they losts alignment when opening with MS Word 2002.
I have attached original and exported files and screenshots from MS Word 2002.

This issue also exists in the Linux version. Word 2003 crashes upon opening the
doc file with the corrupted tables.

RTF saving goes smoothly.

Open "ooo_table_w_3.1rc2.doc" in MSO2003 and OOo-Dev_DEV300_m53_Win32Intel
In MSO2003 table on the left.
In OOo-Dev_DEV300_m53_Win32Intel table on the center.

Hi

I was just wondering what's the status of this bug ?

Is this bug planned for a fix with the 3.2 release ?

As stated 3.0.0 and earlier saves the tables correctly but the tables are
corrupted on 3.0.1 and up (stable releases tried only).

Tested on XP SP3.

If you do a search for this issue on the internet there were a lot of VERY
unhappy people when version 3.0.1 was released and Openoffice caused tables to
be lost when saving in .DOC format. I have to say I was SHOCKED that such a
critical error could make it into a stable release. Posts on the internet
testify how people lost hours of work trying to rebuild their tables-especially
if they had set Openoffice to save in "DOC" format as default.

Mistakes do happen and the developers I know do volunteer their time for which I
am very grateful. Openoffice is a great product and I have used it for a number
of years.

Although I am grateful that 3.1 no longer causes the table data to be lost, from
what I can make out from the forum the alignment issue has not been fixed yet. I
feel it is CRITICAL that a word processor be able to save table information
correctly. MSWORD "DOC" format is used by businesses that I correspond with and
I need information that I send them to be displayed correctly. This is not a
P(riority)3 problem this is P1 problem! I cannot update from 3.0.0m9 until this
issue is resolved. Problems with Openoffice's ability to handle tables and
export them correctly to "DOC" only emerged in 3.0.1 - versions prior to this
exported tables correctly in DOC format. Why has it taken 6 months to resolve an
issue - when it has worked previously in earlier releases?

I am hoping that this issue can be resolved quickly so I can continue to
recommend this software for people looking for a robust Office solution.

This bug still exists on OOo_3.2 RC1!
And I needs staying at 3.0.0 version for having MS Office compatibility!
Does developers see this bug and do some improvements on this way??
Comment 18 Oliver-Rainer Wittmann 2009-12-23 12:49:20 UTC
It does not seem the this issue was seen by OOo's Writer QA or developer team.
The issue is assigned to OOo community member "writer (Norbert Schreiber)" who
never respond.

I am assigning the issue to owner "writerneedsconfirm" - an alias for OOo's
Writer QA team.
Comment 19 michael.ruess 2010-01-05 11:52:14 UTC
The "table corruption" issue is fixed at least since OOo 3.1.1.

What remains, is the fact, that the center alignment is lost when the exported
document is opened in MS Word.

Problem is still exist 3.2.0 release! I still need to use 3.0.0 version for
correct exporting to MS Word .doc files!
Can developers tell us any news about status of this bug?

resetting target
Comment 25 atlantis1975 2011-02-28 13:37:41 UTC
wow. almost 2 years now since the problem with tables in DOC format was first reported and 2 years since I've been able to do an update of openoffice. has this been resolved in the 3.3.0 release or are we keeping our fingers crossed for 3.4? i need to know tables can export correctly as a number of business i correspond with use old versions of MS Word and still require files in .DOC format.

Thanks
Comment 26 Martin Hollmichel 2011-03-16 11:42:34 UTC
set target 3.x since not relevant for 3.4 release.
Comment 27 atlantis1975 2011-07-05 11:01:57 UTC
has there been any progress on this? the last comment from the team was that this is "not relevant for 3.4 release".
its been over two years since I've updated openoffice as I do need tables to be aligned corrected when I export to businesses which are still using older versions of Microsoft Word.
has a target been set to fix this issue which is now 2 years old. what does a target of 3.x mean?
