Description haggai_e 2009-05-07 11:01:47 UTC
I'm having trouble with a Microsoft Word document. Some of its text disappears
when opened in OpenOffice. The text can still be found using the Edit/Search
tool, but the page where it is supposed to be appears blank.
When saving the same document as OpenDocument, the text appears correctly.

I'll attach the broken document, and the .odt version below.

To test this bug:
1. Open the attached file שיקום4.doc
2. Search for the phrase "סיכום המחקרים"‎.
3. Writer finds the text in the document, but it does not appear

I've experienced the problem with OpenOffice 3.0.1 on Ubuntu 9.04, and also with
OpenOffice 2.4.1 on Ubuntu 8.04.

Can confirm here - Mandriva Linux Cooker: openoffice.org-common-3.0.1-5mdv2009.1 .
Comment 4 eric.savary 2009-05-07 11:34:37 UTC
It appears to be caused by the section which does break correctly (?) at the end
of the page.
Remove section - Undo -> the text reappears.

@MRU: known issue?
Comment 5 Dotan Cohen 2009-05-07 11:47:20 UTC
I can confirm this bug in OOo 3.0 on Kubuntu 9.04

An easier way to verify is to open both the odf and doc versions in two OOo
instances. Page 9 appears blank in the doc file, the same page is populated in
the odf file. However, performing a search for the text that should be there in
fact finds the text.

In what program was this document originally created?
Comment 6 haggai_e 2009-05-07 12:08:57 UTC
The file was created using OpenOffice 2.4.1 (on Ubuntu Hardy).
I'm not sure, but I think the problem only appeared after pasting into the file
some text from another documented, that was created Microsoft Word.

MRU->OD: from page seven on the Hebrew text in the attached doc cannot be
displayed. However, it can be selected and converted to a table e.g. Then it
will be visible (and also after Undo of the conversion to table). Could you
please have a look whether this is a filter or core issue?

This issue still occurs in OpenOffice 3.2. (I have version OOO320m12, running in
Ubuntu Lucid). In this version however, both the texts in the .doc file andin in
the .odt files are invisible.

Can confirm on OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 OOO320m19.

I took the ODT, exported it to DOC and opened it again. The problem still
occurs. Changing to print layout (view menu) showed the text. Returning to web
layout showed the text.

Something weird...
