Description rene 2009-05-15 10:09:02 UTC
From http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=512737 (will do it
manually in Debian but it probably would be good when sysui did that directly in
the future):

ckage: openoffice.org-kde
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

the kdesktop package has the /usr/share/templates/ directory.
Special .desktop files you put there are available when you click right on
the KDE desktop and then choose "Create new" (de: "Neu erstellen").

I will send an example of /usr/share/templates/ soon.
[...]
rwxr-xr-x nk/nk             0 2009-01-23 10:11 templates/
-rw-r--r-- nk/nk           268 2009-01-23 10:11 templates/ooo-impress.desktop
drwxr-xr-x nk/nk             0 2009-01-23 09:42 templates/.source/
-rw-r--r-- nk/nk          6305 2009-01-22 18:22 templates/.source/ooo-calc.ods
-rw-r--r-- nk/nk          8993 2009-01-22 19:11 templates/.source/ooo-impress.odp
-rw-r--r-- nk/nk          8063 2009-01-22 18:19 templates/.source/ooo-writer.odt
-rw-r--r-- nk/nk           255 2009-01-23 10:11 templates/ooo-writer.desktop
-rw-r--r-- nk/nk           252 2009-01-23 09:46 templates/ooo-calc.desktop

The files in .source are just empty files (can be replaced) of the
filetype.

$ cat templates/ooo-writer.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=OpenOffice.org Writer ...
Name[de]=OpenOffice.org Writer ...
Comment=Enter OpenOffice.org Writer filename:
Comment[de]=Name der OpenOffice.org Writer Datei eingeben:
Type=Link
URL=.source/ooo-writer.odt
Icon=openofficeorg3-oasis-text

If you click on the context menu for example of writer you will be asked
for a filename and this one will be the new filename.odt.
--- snip ---

This would make */KDE have a feature Windoze/IE has already

We can reuse the files from extras/source/shellnew for that afais.

I don't think this makes sense at all.
Using this will in effect bypass the default template configured by the user, it
will ignore/reset language settings, etc.

If there was a special filetype that would cause OOo to replace the file with a
default template when opened, then OK, but having static documents serve as
template is a waste.

see also issue 101555 for an example why this is a bad idea.

So when there is a dummy-file that is immediately replaced by OOo with the
default document (i.e. the very same you get when creating a new document within
OOo), then OK. Using static documents: No, thanks.

This enhancement looks more to be related to installation process, during
installation of the office the templates should be installed to the system
directory.

If we decide to install the OOo empty files there, the next step could be
exchanging of the template, in case user sets the default template in office.
This implementation would be in framework area then, but it would be a different
enhancement.

@dv,is: We should discuss it later then.

Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
