Description egord 2009-05-19 20:43:48 UTC
Can't expand first column in spreadsheet (see file attached) by mouse.

It can be done only with Shift pressing, but it isn't normal behaviour in
competing word processor :(

Comment 2 eric.savary 2009-05-19 21:36:59 UTC
The column cannot be expanded to the right because the next column (starting at
row 12) is too small.
The keyboard *moves* all the columns to the right.

I think we'll have to re-qualify this of enhancement for we would have to design:
- a way to *move* the whole table to the left with the mouse
- a way to *expand* 1 column *only* with the keyboard

For now it is only possible to:
- *move* the whole table to the left with the keyboard
- *expand* 1 column *only* with the mouse

@MRU: do we have a duplicate for this? Do you agrre with ENHANCEMENT?

I'll attach a simple document showing the problem.

Dear ES!

I seen you example, but I need to pay you attention to more difficult
spreadsheets, then 2x2.
My example is from real life, and one another word processor (You have guessed,
yes?) have not any difficult with this column resize operation. With only left
mouse keydown, yeh...

Yes I understood and didn't argue there is a problem :)
I just said *the way* we are going to solve this problem doesn't seem to be over
a DEFECT but while qualifying it as ENHANCEMENT.

Because in this case we will have to think about a way to move to the right with
the mouse (means choose a key to press with the mouse button) and a shortcut on
the keyboard to achieve with the keyboard what is now done with the mous.

All the redesign must be thought and written down in a specification: that's an
ENHANCEMENT! :)

Éric, Michael,
please note that you can make first column wider via right-click-Column-Width
and setting desired size. Or is it the same as Shift-dragging?
As far as specification needs to be created, I think we can just emulate
competing word processor in this case - expand if possible and move allif
expanding is not possible.
Regards,
Kirill.

Reassigned to requirements.
Desired is make the Shift-mouse move behavior default for resizing table columns
with mouse. It would be the more expected behavior by the user.
