Description mikefinch 2009-05-27 02:47:22 UTC
Cell (sheet) protection is erratic in behaviour; there seems to be some
interaction with cell colouration fill. Unpredictable behaviour. Some cells that
should have been protected aren't AND vice versa!
Under Tools | Protect Document | Sheet | Options, why is Select locked cells an
option? Surely the whole idea of locking a cell is to make it unselectable??
I think this should be reworded!
I could supply the recalcitrant spreadsheet if necessary (how do I do that?).

So, after you take a deep breath, please tell me what you are reporting as a bug
here. Thanks.

Still no answer!?

I'd like to know whether there is something wrong with how this feature is
implemented, or whether this is an issue with the labeling of dialog controls,
or anything else. I need some clarification in order to help fix this.

From help:
"In OpenOffice Calc you can protect sheets and the document as a whole. You can choose whether the cells are protected against accidental changes, whether the formulas can be viewed from within Calc, whether the cells are visible or whether the cells can be printed."

"In the default condition, every cell has the Protected attribute." - this is counter-intuitive.

Having: Format - Cells... - Cell Protection
And separately: Tools - Protect Document
Is user foe (not user friendly).

Please re-design feature.
