Bug: Open office cannot save my spreadsheet file.

1. Create the file listed below using calc with filename "MenuText.textxml"
2. Make a change, and select save.
The following will occur:
An error overlay will popup that says "Error saving the document MenuText: Write
Error. The file could not be written."

The file listed below should be able to be saved using open office calc.

Note: the file is not read only

I see the described error in DEV300m49 on WinXP.

You can save the document to ods-Format. But the error remains, if you open that
ods-document and try to save as "Excel 2003 XML". The error remains too, if you
use a file name without additional dot and using automatic file name extension.
The document can be opened and saved in Excel2007 without problems.

Me too:
Every week that I use OO scalc I have at least a few instances of
"cannot save file" as ods or xls. If I'm lucky, I copy the sheet contents to
my text editor, reload file, copy back.
This is the only software I have with this bug.

On the opposite side of this issue, if OO aborts, such as from PC crash,
I can't restart OO without the ridiculous dialog of "do you want to recover ...
files?" when a simple NO and ordinary open is quite adequate. I don't want that 
dialog as it wastes time.

Therefore, please kill the second and fix the first.
Work less on holding my hand, more on handling the basics.

I have seen this general issue happen twice now on two different computers using
two different spreadsheets.  Both are Mac laptops, one running Leopard, and the
other Snow Leopard.

Each time, the user is working on an existing .ods file, making some changes,
then tries to save.  The user is confronted with the 'cannot save file' message.
 There seems to be no way around it except 'save as' a different file type (xls
worked for me).

Then I open up the original file, copy and paste the new/changed lines, and save
it (this time it saves).

Not sure what causes the 'cannot save', there is no reason given.  It could be
going to sleep and waking up while the file is open...?

Anyway, this makes Calc seem very unstable...

Using the latest version 3.1.1.
