Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 102781
"Screen saver" after 20 minutes
Last modified: 2009-06-17 10:36:23 UTC
My wife uses OOo3.10m11 on her HP Compaq 6720s Vista Business 32 laptop. She opens a Writer page and views it for around 30 minnutes. However after 20 minutes the screen goes black and she has to move the mouse to get the screen on again. She finds this irksome. The Windows screen saver is set for 40 minutes. I have searched all the OOo help resources but cannot find anything remotely similar to this issue hence reporting it as a bug in Writer.
I don't think thre is any relation betwenn OOo and the screen saver. Does this only happens when OOo it open or with other applications?
If the problem existed in more than just OOo Writer, I would have reported this or looked elsewhere for a solution. However, since it occurs in Writer while Writer is the only application open, I thought it must be a Writer issue. We have switched off the Windows Screen Saver but that does not help the situation. The screen goes black after 20 minutes. It's not the pointing device, it's not a Windows or HP setup, as this happens only in OOo Writer (can't say for other applications of OOo because my wife does not use other apps). Please realize that I have 28 years experience in the Computer Industry and I do not write from a novice perspective. I am only a novice where OOo is concerned.
"We have switched off the Windows Screen Saver" So that tell me it's not the screen saver (which is disabled) but... "Laptop" "Vista" "The screen goes *black* after 20 minutes" Did you try the "Power managment on Vista"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCd_fLW5p5o "can't say for other applications of OOo because my wife does not use other apps" Then I'd ask you to *try* it to be sure. But I think the most likely solution is Vista's Power managment on laptops which is by default set to 20mn.
Thank you. This was the problem. I have now changed the screen off (when plugged in) from 20 minutes to 1 hour.
Setting resolution only for the records
