Description aspdotnetdev 2009-07-02 01:55:15 UTC
During installation of OpenOffice, you can choose whether or not to install
individual features. When you click on a feature, it shows a "feature
description" on the right of the window. When a feature description is too
long, it gets truncated and an ellipsis gets placed at the end of the text.
There appears to be no way to view the text that got cut off. This defeats the
purpose of even having a feature description. Other features may suffer from
this same issue, but I only happened to notice it with "Python-UNO Bridge"
feature. Here is what I can see of the feature description (notice the ellipsis
at the end):

Adds the ability to automate OpenOffice.org with the python scripting language.
See http://udk.openoffice.org/python/python-bridge.html for a co...

I recommend either feature descriptions be shortened or, even better, create
a "more..." button that opens a new window to allow the user to see the full
description. Here are some other possible alternatives:
1) Make the feature description a button instead of a label. That way, the user
can click the button and read the full feature description in a new window.
2) Make the feature description a readonly textbox instead of a label. That
way, the user can scroll to see the rest of the description. A richtextbox
could also be used.
3) Make the installation window resizable. That way, the user can resize the
window to see the rest of the feature description.
