Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 103334
slow opening of document if it does not contain an object-count.
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:47:29 UTC
If the meta.xml file of an odf document does not contain an object count the document loads 2 to 6 times slower than if it does. The progress bar shows, what looks like, the progress of loading every object separately, this is not usefull and this very frequent updating of the progress bar may be responsable for the slow loading of such a document. I attached two documents object-count.odg and no-object-count.odt, the times it took to open these two documents, on different platforms is shown in the table below. Machine OS OpenOffice Time Time Time version object-count no-count relative G4 1.25 Ghz Debian 5.0 3.0.1 0:31 2:23 4.6 G4 1.25 Ghz OS X 10.4.11 NeoOffice 3.0 0:37 1:28 2.3 AMD64 2.3 Ghz Debian 5.0 3.0.1 0:07 0:42 6.0 AMD64 2.3 Ghz osol0906 3.1 0:11 0:30 2.7 This is hardly a major issue but, as far as I can tell, object-count is not a mandatory item in the the ODF specification, so the difference shouldn't be this large, it is easier for developers of ODF producing applications not to include an object count.
