Description darford 2009-07-15 05:27:34 UTC
1)OO 3.1.0 crashed while I was using Mail Merge.
2)I restarted. The OpenOffice.org Document Recovery tool recovered my document
successfully. Then, it displayed the message "A report of the crash was created
to help identify the reason why OpenOffice.org crashed. Click 'Next' to get to
the Error Report Tool."
3)I pressed next.
4)The error report tool did not appear as promised. How do I finish the bug
report for my crash?
5)OO 3.1.0 hung while I was trying to reproduce the crash. I had to kill it
with Windows Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Same result 2-4 as for the crash...

Crashes with MailMerge seem to be frequent, but not easily repeatable. Please,
if you absolutely have to have a crash report to work on the crash issues, then
either the user absolutely needs some way to obtain a crash report (or an
identifiable crash report # if automatically submitted to Sun).

Please clarify: I think that this means that OO generated the crash report, but
didn't actually send it to Sun. Even if it did transmit, is it useful without
any way of associating it with the user report of activity leading up to the
crash?

Framework issue.

My experience is that the Error Report Tool more or less never works correctly,
may be 1% of my crashes causes ERT to do its work :-(

Steps to reproduce:
1. Reproduce crash in Issue 103808
2. Restart OOo
3. Restart document recovery
expected: Error Report Tool should start after document recovery
   actual: ERT does not start.

Currently I can't decide whether this really is a DEFECT or whether my crashes
are of a sort for what ERT has not been designed; pls feel free to modify Issue
Type to ENHANCEMENT if you find out that the tool only has to b improved.

The problem is that without any crash report it is difficult to fix it because
we don't know why it crashes.

I've tested with OOO330 (see issue 114793). Crashrep is working for me.
