OpenOffice will not display Special Characters!!!

Insert -> Special Characters
special characters dialog box will not display symbol font and Times New Roman 
symbols

HI->MRU: Could not reproduce with winXP and Win2000. Please check with
win98.

It is a problem with Unicode based fonts on Windows 98. Issue already
described by issue #9917.
