Description julisys 2009-09-22 15:00:54 UTC
An impress file should contain many slides (e.g. 40), each with a linked image
(not embedded).

In Slide Pane:
- select slide 20
- scroll up to slide 1 (using mouse wheel)
- wait 3 seconds and do nothing
error: slide pane is scrolled back to slide 20 (and selection of slide 20 is
blinking)

In Slide Pane:
- select slide 20
- scroll down to slide 30 (using mouse wheel)
- wait 1 second and do nothing
- try to scroll further down
error: slide pane is scrolled back to slide 20

In Slide Sorter (4 slides per row):
- slide 40 is already selected from normal view
- scroll up to first row
- wait 1-2 seconds and do nothing
error: slide sorter is scrolled back to slide 40

In Slide Sorter:
- slide 40 is already selected from normal view
- select an other slide
- wait 1-2 seconds and do nothing
error: selection jumps back to slide 40

This behavior is not reproducible, if the images are embedded in the impress file.

Maybe this issue has to do with issues 97757 and/or 101221.

My system:
Fedora 10
KDE 4.3.1
OOo 3.1.1 is from OOo homepage, not from fedora repository
Comment 1 the4thchild 2009-10-06 19:46:58 UTC
I'm definitely seeing this as well on Windows XP SP3, OOo 3.1.1. The selected
slide in the slide pane blinks roughly every second, and if a text area is
selected in the editing panel, the text box blinks simultaneously with the slide
pane.

I don't see this behavior with small files, so maybe it's just for files with many
slides and linked images.
Comment 2 wolframgarten 2009-10-07 11:56:10 UTC
I can reproduce the behavior if I get another window in the foreground after
scrolling and then activating the impress window again. The pictures do not have
to be linked.

Reproduced under Windows XP SP3, OOo 3.1.1 (310m19).
Very, very annoying -- this bug is the reason I signed up for the issue tracker.
Comment 5 68omalley 2009-10-28 19:24:23 UTC
I have seen this behavior on Mac as well
Comment 6 owqcd 2009-11-05 21:58:08 UTC
I notice exactly the same thing as what was mentioned by the4thchild, but on
Debian Testing, with openoffice 3.1.1 (310m19) : the slide pane blinks all the
time and is synchronous with the text cursor if a text box is being edited. Is
there any use of such a strange activity ?

I would like to add that when I edit my presentation (50 slides with OLE objects
from oodraw, mathematical formulas, linked images), the processor eats on
average 50% of my CPU even if I don't touch the computer !
Comment 7 julisys 2009-11-06 09:25:37 UTC
@owqcd:
What happens, if you don't link the images, but embed them? Does it still eat
your CPU?
Comment 8 owqcd 2009-11-06 11:28:01 UTC
> What happens, if you don't link the images, but embed them? Does it still eat
your CPU?

Thank you for the suggestion. The results is significant :

I had a presentation with links to image files and to an odg document.
* I first embeded the odg document -> no change (high CPU usage when user is
idle, bad scrolling of the slide pane, strange blinking of the selected slide in
the slide pane)
* I then embeded all the remaining links -> the former annoying behaviors
disappear, CPU usage goes to zero when user is idle.

However, I want to make it clear that embeding things is not a solution for me.
I need links because I use the same images in different documents. Links should
be the right way.

Note: The scrolling of the pane is still painful for this long document, but at
least the bug above disappears. In think the smoothness of the scrolling of the
pane must really be improved. We don't need to see so many details when
scrolling quickly ! Smoothness is more important ! But this problem is another
issue.

The "Scroll back to slide 20" issue seems to be a DUP of fixed Issue 107049.
Any objections to mark this one as a DUP?
Comment 10 julisys 2009-12-23 09:06:24 UTC
@rainerbielefeld:
I will download OOO320_m7 and check, if the error disappeared.
Comment 11 julisys 2009-12-23 09:38:05 UTC
@rainerbielefeld:
In OOO320_m7 the error is still present.
Is there an other download, which already contains the fix mentioned in Issue
107049?
Comment 12 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-12-23 09:59:52 UTC
Because of the more advanced status I will mar this one as DUP of Issue 107049.
May be votes should be transferred to Issue 107049
Pls. feel free to reopen this issue if you find concrete indication that the
problem in this issue differs from the one in Issue 107049

@julisys
I also still see this problem, pls. see my comment in Issue 107049!

Comment 13 68omalley 2009-12-23 12:30:19 UTC
Issue 107049 does not mentioned linked images, isn't that the root of this
problem (see owqcd Fri Nov 6 11:28:01 +0000 2009 above)?
Comment 14 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-12-23 15:42:58 UTC
@68omalley:
You are right, the resulting problem is the same in Issue 107049, but the reason
seems different. I can't reproduce the problem with sample for that issue and
3.2.0RC1, so it seems that THAT problem has been solved.

I reopen this issue
Comment 15 wolframgarten 2010-01-05 14:29:55 UTC
I can reproduce the problem in OOO320_m8.
Comment 16 Rainer Bielefeld 2010-02-05 05:28:58 UTC
I believe this one is a DUP of Issue 107839

@julisys:
Can you please check whether all problems are solved with the fix for OOo 3.2?

*** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 107839 ***
Comment 17 julisys 2010-02-05 08:57:46 UTC
I downloaded OOo3.2rc5 (OOO320m12) and checked my test file.

I can't find any error.
The errors are solved.
Great!!!
