Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 105438
Connectors unable to target shape centers
Last modified: 2013-01-29 21:48:36 UTC
The connectors that OOo Drawing can draw are limited to the default glue-points each shape has, that is in the center of each shape side. If one was to develop a concept map, the connectors would distribute around this glue-points, flooding some of them, and leaving others intact. That is where the enhancement comes to play. I hereby propose that the connectors are given a third 'connecting' option, where they will target the exact center of the shape to connect and draw the arrow (or end symbol) at the surface of the shape's contour. Some say a picture says more than 1000 words, so http://sharepointandintranets.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/concept-map-muical-instruments.jpg
Please have a look into the help using "glue points" for searching. the drawing toolbar already holds a function with that name that lets you generate your own glue points.
Closed.
This enhancement asks for no glue-points manual. The issue I am reporting here is more about implementing a built-in feature that would create a new default glue-point now on the center of each shape, and when connected to, the arrow of the connector will remain next to the shape's contour, without being overlapped by the shape.
Reassigned.
valid request A center glue point as fifth default glue point is difficult to get, because that would need a change in specification. But it would be possible to add a center glue point to some custom shape, e.g. "circle" and "ellipse". Such glue point is needed for PPT-import (see 74716). I do not set this as duplicate, because this request goes further.
