Description con.hennessy 2003-01-13 11:28:50 UTC
I have a note in a cell and a control close by.
When the note is activated ( i.e. becomes visible ), it is obviously
drwn over the cells but *not* over the control i.e. the control is drawn
over the note.

Hi,

I've tried it with OOo 1.0, 1.0.1, OOo643c and srx644g1. I can't
reproduce it.

So I've to close this as worksforme.

I've reopened this and attached a jpeg of what the problem looks
like. I could probably narrow it down to a spreadsheet if necessary.
Maybe this is only a problem on the Windows platform ?

Hi,

aaahhhh, you have activated 'Show Note' in the context menu of the
cell. Ok, this looks like your jpeg. If you haven't selected 'Show
Note' and the mouse pointer is on the cell the note is displayed over
the button.

Frank i assign this to you, some comments ?

looks like a problem of the layering in Calc. Assigning to Niklas, as
the form layer does not have the control about how it's embedded in
the applications.

Form controls are supposed to be above all other document contents,
because in "live" mode, they use their own VCL windows anyway.

As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved duplicate
issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is
unfortunately to set them to verified.

Please, could you re-evaluate this (and re-open the issue), as the behaviour is
somehow not what a user would expect.

This issue needs to be reopened. It is a recurring problem that significantly
impedes the use of notes under common circumstances. In many cases, there is
absolutely no way to A) duplicate the function of a particular form control in a
way that does not block the note; or B) add contextual explanations in a way that
does not rely on notes. So, the problem really needs another look. This peculiar
behavior is also contrary to every expectation of the user that "popup" messages
overlay everything else in a program, including OS window controls.
Comment 16 aurelias 2010-01-11 20:56:13 UTC
Also, I forgot to mention that the notes are hidden when the mouse hovers over the
note. This only shows up outside of design mode. When design mode is active, the
notes show up properly: above the form controls. This fix reverts immediately
upon exiting design mode, however.

Fully agree with the last posters. This needs to be fixed.

Very curios is, that the notes show properly, when design mode is active, above the form controls. Otherwise not, it should be exactly opposite.
