Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 106361
Option to ignore particular hidden text for "paste as unformatted text"
Last modified: 2014-03-23 14:56:17 UTC
1. open the file, select text starting from Чім ваша програма краще інших, аналогічних? and the paragraph immediately after it 2. press ctrl+ins 3. go to kate, scribus, or notepad (on win32) and press shift+ins redundant text (i.e. we don't see it in openoffice window, except when in unprintable characters mode) gets copied (it seems it was deleted in review mode). i'll attach the file after submitting this report.
Created attachment 65687 [details] file with hidden deleted text
Reproducible with "Ooo 3.1.1 WIN XP DE-multilingual version German UI activated [OOO310m19 (Build 9420)]", but I can't see anything wrong in the current behaviour. Of course all selected contents will be copied to clipboard, but also of course, a correct interpretation of that contents is only possible if the application to where you paste the contents is able to interpret all that contents in the correct way. If you proceed as reported and paste the contents into an other OOo document, the paragraph will look exactly as in the source document. If you use "paste unformatted text", also hidden contents like "Nonprinting characters" will be shown. INVALID? @reporter: Why do you believe that the current behaviour is wrong? Please specify your OS, Platform, OOo localizatian!
The text has not been removed by review mode. It is formatted as "Hidden" (Format.Character.Font effects). Any character formattings could not be written to "unformatted text" clipboard format (which is used by text editors) thus the text is visible in named editors.
Closed, cannot be fixed.
as far as i know, a clipboard may have several versions - e.g. one with formatting and it's 'plain text' equivalent. so 'plain text' version shouldn't contain hidden text (if 'unprintable characters' ain't shown). see http://doc.trolltech.com/4.5/qclipboard.html#setMimeData and http://doc.trolltech.com/4.5/qmimedata.html#setData if Qt can do this multiplatform, OOo should be able to do it too.
Not A DEFECT. Related to Issue 91562? @shaforostoff: AFAIK your knowledge is wrong. But Qt indeed shows interesting features, may be some of them can be integrated to OOo
Reassigned to requirements. When implementing some things have to be cleared: what should happen when "hidden text" is visible (show formatting marks)?
> what should happen when"hidden text" is visible well, it should be copied to the text/plain clipboard (i.e. old behaviour)
@shaforostoff: There is no separate "text/plain clipboard" (but may be WORD handles various clipboards for different uses). What do you mean with "i.e. old behaviour"; OOo1.x? WordStar? Please contribute a clear and detailed concept for your needs!
-unprinted characters are off -> copy only visible text -unprinted characters are on -> copy both visible and 'hidden' text on X11 xdnd [http://www.newplanetsoftware.com/xdnd/] is used fopr clipboard, and it does support mimetypes.
the use case is user copying large text block from openoffice writer to scribus, not noticing redundant text, which then gets printed in many copies.
