Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 106590
Floating (Navigator) window opens on the wrong screen
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:44:52 UTC
I have two Openoffice windows open on a 2-headed display. A spreadsheet fills the right screen. In front of the spreadsheet is a smaller Writer document window, also on the right screen, but right justified on the screen, and small enough to allow a Navigator window for the Writer document to fit up against the Writer window. The spreadsheet peeks out below the Writer document. When I opened the Writer document, there is no Navigator window. When I click on the Navigator button, the Navigator window appears on the left screen, where I don't want it. (Another app is running on screen #1.) If I move my cursor to the left screen, it has to pass over the spreadsheet. 1. The spreadsheet doesn't have its Navigator open, so the Navigator window disappears before I can get to it to move it adjacent to the Writer window. I have to move the Writer window to the left so that there's a path from my Writer window to the Navigator that doesn't go over the spreadsheet! 2. I can then drag the Navigator window to the left side of screen #2, then drag the Writer window to be adjacent to the Navigator window. If I now move my cursor over the spreadsheet window (intentionally or accidently), the Navigator window disappears. If I move my cursor back into the Writer window, the Navigator window reappears at the left side of screen #1! Now I have to repeat the process of dragging my window so that I can get to the Navigator window. Please make it so the position of the Navigator window is remembered, and not redrawn at some other place.
@OF: you might have duplicates for this.
Seems to be duplicate to issue 42282 *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 42282 ***
...
This is not a duplicate of 42282. Although both bugs have to do with dual-head consoles, the bugs are quite different. 42282 has to do with popups popping up on monitors that are not connected. This bug has to do with popups appearing in bad places (still visible), and not where they were the last time the popup appeared.
Problem seems to depend on the "Focus follows mouse" - function within Linux. The mentioned behaviour doesn't occur when using a different OS like Win. This function leeds to the mentioned effect, that a different application (in this case calc) get's the focus, when mouse is moved over it (and therefor the navigator disappears due to the fact, that the navigator was called from writer after calc has already been opened). I don't think, that this is a defect, because the behaviour is wanted by the OS. TM->CD: please have a look and feel free to add an additional statement.
