Description Unknown 2003-01-20 19:50:11 UTC
Installed 1.0.1 Final Beta on Mac OS X 10.2.3 as user 'admin' and tried running soffice as newly-created user 'qwer'.

I typed "/Applications/OpenOffice.org1.0.1/program/soffice" from the command line and found the Repair/Modify/Remove dialogue fails to correct the problem.

Worked around this by creating new ~/.sversionrc that looks like:
[Versions]
OpenOffice.org 1.0.1=file:///Applications/OpenOffice.org1.0.1

I ran 'setup -net' as root. When I attempted to repair/modify the existing
installation, setup promted me for the Openoffice CD.  I searched the disk
image "OOo 1.0.1 X11 Final Beta" and the mount point /Volumes/perdition for
a file setup wanted - LICENSE.html.  It wants something I was unable to
find.  The multiuser setup failed.

The MacOS X distribution is currently not using the X11 based installer, but rather an installer constructed with InstallAnywhere. The InstallAnywhere installer is only configured for single-user installations currently, so the sversionrc error will in fact be a problem when trying to use it to install on multi-user accounts.

The installer problem is really due to a chicken and egg issue of OS X not having X11 installed by default, so our installer contains XFree to install X11 for users (without which, the standard OOo installer can't run...). There are other additional dependencies, all of which make using the standard OOo installer a bit difficult.

A potential solution for this would be for us to distribute an X11 based installer in addition to our single user binary installer for multi-user installation. Another option would be to replicate our single-user OS X installer for multi-user installs.

Changing milestone to 1.0.4; curently working on multi-user installs for OOo on OS X.

The messages about "missing files" can be safely ignored. They occur with all of the X11 based installers on OS X created without certain patches.

there is no more activity on the 1.0.x release, so marking this as
RESOLVED/REMIND in case somebody want ta take action on this.

OpenOffice.org no longer uses a .sversionrc file.
Issue can be reopened if this file is considered again for use.
