Description Unknown 2003-01-22 18:20:26 UTC
Windows outlook uses the MS Office product for spell checking. Is there a way
that the spell checker in Writer can be utilized for spelling purposes in MS
Outlook? This capability is worthwhile and necessary for the spelling
challenged. Thank you for the time and support in advance.

@mba: Please take care of this one. Thanx

First we need to make up our mind if we want to provide that at all
(provider our spellchecker as Windows spellchecker).

If we want to do this, we need to implement a COM-Wrapper around our
own UNO-API for the spellchecker.

It is also possible to write a COM implementation that directly wraps
the individual spellcheckers for OOo and StarOffice. For the latter
one, it might be possible that such COM implementation already
exists, because the vendor might want his product to be used in that
context.

Hi,

I would like to suggest that this might be an excellent marketing
opportunity for OpenOffice.org.

MS Outlook Express does not by default have a spell checker facility
without MS Word loaded.

Outlook Express suits most of my clients without the need to use
full blown Outlook. Spell checking, Calendar/Schedule is all that
is generally required. Knocking one of these over would help.

It would be a VERY BIG point in favour of OpenOffice.org if the
dictionaries were available to MS Outlook Express as well.

Hopefully I haven't hijacked the issue. But I felt my comment could
help give wait to the issue.

Thanks

Kelvin

Fl->TL: Do we have a chance to implement this for OO.org 2.0?

FL and I agreed that MBA and FL took the issue the wrong way (integrating the
Outlook spellchecker for use in OOo which would have been beneficial at least to
Windows users of OOo).

Since I do not see where the benefit for OOo would be in doing this I think I
will stick to fixing other tasks or implementing new feature that will improve
OOo instead of doing this.

TL->Kevin: What about you Kevin? Do you have any interest in making the OOo
spellchecker available in Outlook?
I don't even know if this is possible, I doubt it is. MBA's comment was about
integrating the Outlook spellchecker in OOo which probably could have been done.
But I do not know if it is possible to supply/add a new spellchecker to Outlook.
If you don't know about this either or have no time for it please feel free to
close this issue.

Hi Thomas,

I know nothing about windows and I do not have the time to spend on learning Outlook's interface
which may in fact be proprietary as well.

So I am closing this one out.
