Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 109545
Footnote loses superscript after saving/reopening in no_bk build
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:44:35 UTC
Writer 3.2 OOO320m12: 1) Add a footnote. The footnote anchor is a "1" in superscript. 2) Save the document in normal .ODT format. 3) Open it again. 4) The footnote anchor is no longer in superscript. Saving the file as "Word 97/2000/XP" does not ruin footnote anchor superscript.
Cannot confirm this. Does this happen only in a certain document or even in a new one created from the scratch? On which operating system do you run OOo? Is it the native one downloaded from openoffice.org website?
It happens when creating a new document from scratch. I have easily reproduced the error on two different XP installations and one Vista. OOo is the "official" Norwegian Bokmål version downloaded here: http://download.services.openoffice.org/files/localized/nb/3.2.0/OOo_3.2.0_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_nb.exe

That's quite odd... From the attached file I can see that the character style "Footnote anchor" loses its "superscript" property when saving. Does not happen in German or English OOo - maybe it is a translation problem with the internal styles. I'll investigate...
MRU->OS: I had a look at the no_bk build of OOo - there I can confirm the described behavior. It looks, that there is a problem with the translation. When having a look at the stylist (character styles), there is no style "Footnote anchor" or "Endnote anchor" available. MRU->CONI: is it a thing for your department?

axelb, can you please have a look at the below (translation) issue and see who within the Norwegian translation team can best have it fixed? Thx! Rafaella
Well, this should be the file in question, http://svn.skolelinux.org/websvn/filedetails.php?repname=skolelinux&path=%2Ftrunk%2Fi18n%2Fopenoffice%2Fpo%2Fnb%2Fsw%2Fsource%2Fui%2Futlui.po
Probably one of these syntax warnings: http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/DEV300/DEV300_m70/Build-1/build/GSI_nb.sdf.warnings We will fix them and hope this will solve the problem. But we have to wait for the next test build to see if this really was the reason.
The nb localize.sdf should be fixed now. I did successfully build OOo4kids with it after a intense hunt for the build showstoppers a.k.a the ones mentioned in Axel's post.
I uploaded it to our SVN repo: http://svn.skolelinux.org/websvn/filedetails.php?repname=skolelinux&path=%2Ftrunk%2Fi18n%2Fopenoffice%2Fpo%2FGSI%2Flocalize.sdf.bz2 The footnore/endnote superscript issue still persists, so did I miss something?

olavd: The problem comes from the fact that both the "Footnote Characters" and "Footnote anchor" character styles have the same display name: the wrong style is then used to write the ODF file. You need to distinguish those strings: #: poolfmt.src#STR_POOLCHR_FOOTNOTE.string.text msgid "Footnote Characters" msgstr "Fotnotetegn" #: poolfmt.src#STR_POOLCHR_FOOTNOTE_ANCHOR.string.text msgid "Footnote anchor" msgstr "Fotnotetegn"

This issue has now been fixed, thanks for the participation in finding it. :-) The files will hopefully be available in the upstream source code really soon.
Is this issues fixed in vanilla OOo? OOo 3.3 is in showstopper-mode. This issue doesn't look like a stopper for the current release. I change the target to OOo 3.x. Please change the target accordingly when a fix is near to be integrated into a code line or promote it as stopper issues at the mailing list releases@openoffice.org, when it is urgent enough for OOo 3.3.
This was fixed in 3.2.1, so the report should have been closed a long time ago.
This problem still exists when saving to RTF documents in the current stable release. It is extremely problematic for academic writing as a result.
