Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 109854
vista sp2 x64 cannot save or open file (no dialog window)
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:02:04 UTC
vista sp2 x64 cannot save file (no file/open dialog window appears after clicking on menu item File->Save As) java 6 update 18 ooo320m12 and also 3.1.1 java 6 update 17 it used to work a week ago..
ooo320m12/java6.18 can open-modify-save existing files
can open existing file by clicking on filename in explorer.. cannot do menu"File->Save As" on existing file
it appears problem is with saving/opening (creating) new files
hv dual boot vista or "windows 7 RC".. on win7 RC oo 3.2/java6.18 works fine
michael170@ That problem really only appears in WRITER, not in other OOo applications? Do you use OOo or OS file dialog? What OOo localization from what source do you use? What checks and attempts to repair your WIN or OOo did you do until now? Screenshots might be useful.
problem appears in all OOo applications.. i was using "OS file dialog".. i just tried switching to OOo dialogs and they seem to WORK just fine, thanx for suggestion.. What OOo localization from what source do you use? i dont understand this question??? i run off of local disk drive.. What checks and attempts to repair your WIN or OOo did you do until now? i got paranoid and backed out some MS updates but there was no change. there is "no reason" why OS dialogs should not work, however i tune my vista-x64 by disabling various services. so thats where i believe the problem lies, as i reported my Win7rc install of OOo worked fine. there really should be some sort of diagnostic application that a user could run that would "validate" the computer configuration to a baseline and if it failed the diagnostic there could be "good" messages so that it would be more apparent whats wrong. this kind of diagnostic would actually vastly improve the "open" development process and save time in communicating difficulties. i suspect because the windoze environment has so many services running problems similar to this will become more frequent.
i realized what big difference between my vista-x64 & my Win7rc-x64 was.. i installed MS c++ express visual studio 2008 on my Win7.. also my vista has a plethora of c++ redistributable's from 2005 & 2008 installed but NOT MS c++ exress.. i guess i could try installing c++ express on my vista but i'm not sure what i need to prove anymore as i'm probably happy using OOo dialogs..
Framework issue.
i uninstalled and removed 2005 ATL & c++ redist x86 & x64 stuff.. the OS dialogs still refuse to appear..
i also removed "superflous" c++ redist stuff.. so that i only have one install of: ATL 9.0.030729.4148;C++ x64 9.0.21022 & x86 9.030729.4148
@michael170: Localization means: What language for UI and documents do you use. What checks and attempts ...: did you use md5 checksum to check integrity of your installation file?
