Description john_talbot 2010-03-07 22:54:25 UTC
A spreadsheet workbook used by many users around the world for reporting
astronomical observations uses cell and range names that another workbook with
a macro uses for translating data into a coded text format and for merging data
from multiple users.
When an observer opens the reporting file in Calc it changes some of the names.
I particular a Name "_Remark1" gets changed to "_Remark1_2". There is another
name "_TRemark1" on a different sheet that appears to be mistaken as the same
name. This implies that Calc requires the last 6 or 7 characters to be unique.

I am able to change the macro to serach for both names as a work around so this
is not too serious but it took quite a while to find what was happening and I
was only able to analyse when the user mentioned that he used OpenOffice and
not MSOffice.

I have searched you Issues database and have not found this problem or
constraint on name uniqueness mentioned.

I would suggets that at very least a warning message should be given when names
are changed. A note in the help about Range names may also be useful.

Another attached file: FFC252SC_NumberName0001.xls

Open the attached file. Go to sheet "NumberName0010", "NumberName0015". Check cell B19. They should be =SUM(Data) and =test. But in AOO3.4 Rev. 1327774, they changed to =SUM(Data 1) and =test 1.
