Cannot confirm with OOo 3.2 on WinXP. Will have a look on Mac soon.
BTW: what did you "edit"? I hope, you did not remove the protection from a
linked section and edited in the linked part?
Comment 2 lars.nooden 2010-03-12 17:31:36 UTC
Steps:

Create word processing documents 1, 2, and 3

Create master document 0

Add sections 1,2,3 linking to documents 1,2,3

Edit text in 0,

Save document 0

Close document 0

Open document 0

Comment 3 michael.ruess 2010-03-15 16:54:25 UTC
Cannot confirm this. Text I added to a master document is properly saved and
loaded again. Checked with OOo 3.2 on Mac and Win.
Where do you edit the text in the Master Document?

Perhaps someone else should look at this instead?

There are three attachments. Get all three. Open "The Master Document" edit one of the sections. Close
the master document. Re-open the master document.
Comment 8 michael.ruess 2010-03-16 09:52:48 UTC
So why don't you answer my question? You edited inside the section. The sections
are linked - so they will be updated with the linked content every time you open
the master document.
you have to click the option "Save contents as well" in the Navigator. then you
have to click "Update links? - No" when you open the master document.
Contents in linked will ALWAYS be overwritten when updating a links.
Comment 9 michael.ruess 2010-03-16 09:56:20 UTC
closed, not a bug here. Concept of Master document and linked sections has not
been understood.
Please next time refer to mailing lists like users@oenoffice org or OOo support
pages.

Michael, please let someone else look at this instead of quickly brushing it
under the rug.
Comment 11 lars.nooden 2010-03-17 19:27:19 UTC
I cannot see when the edits in the master document are getting overwritten.

It is clear is that the changes made inside the master document are not getting
propagated to the linked documents. No warnings are given when saving or closing.

Save As dialog -- corrected
Comment 14 lars.nooden 2010-03-17 19:42:04 UTC
In the attached TIFF, there is a screen shot of the Save As dialog. There is no
warning there or in the regular save dialog warning that the changes will be lost.

Expected behavior is that changes in the master are saved to the linked documents.

I've looked in the frame brought up by View->Navigator and see nothing there
about saving, but would not expect it to be there, anyway.

@larsnooden: someone else will tell you exactly the same as MRU who is perfectly
right...

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOoAuthors_User_Manual/Writer_Guide/Editing_a_master_document

"Editing subdocuments
You cannot save edits made to a subdocument from within the master document.
Instead, you must open the subdocument..."

As MRU said, a concept problem:

More than just a concept problem, it is at least a design problem with the UI.
