Description crt522 2010-03-28 05:23:01 UTC
System Info: Windows 7 x64 , running Ooo (Build 9488 – DEV300m-75) in
compatibility mode, 4g Ram 2quad CPU @2.66GHz

Description: I can no longer run Impress, after attempting to load the Sun
Presenter Minimizer extension. I have uninstalled, and run a repair reinstall,
and it still doesn't work. I am getting the following "fatal error" dialog: The
application cannot be started. The user interface language cannot be determined.

I can no longer repro, reinstalling the application does not fix the problem.

Steps I took:
- I loaded the Dev build 9488 on my system in compatibility mode, it worked
fine. I also downloaded the Sun Presentation Minimizer and stored it on my hd.
- From within Impress, I loaded the Extension Manager, and went to browse for
the Sun Presentation Minimizer extension. It loaded, I recieved the screen
where the agreement has to be scrolled, I clicked OK after that, and a second
or two later, an error appears on the screen. (Unfortunately I did not capture
it's data)
- I closed Impress, and went the reopen it, and it now generates the 'fatal
error' described above.

NOTE: It's possible this bug belongs in the Extensions compontent section, but
that area did not have the DEV300m75 listed in versions.

(Anand Gopalakrishnan, 9/9/2010)
System Information: Windows 7 x64, Open Office Version: Dev300m87

I am able to reproduce the issue with the latest development snapshot but
getting a different Fatal Error

Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. Download the Sun Presentation Minimizer extension from the website and store
it in your hard disk:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/en/project/PresentationMinimizer
Note: The only version of the extension available is: 1.0.1 for Windows
Version of Extension Used: 1.0.1-Win32Intel

2. Launch the dev003m87 Open Office Impress

3. Go to Tools -> Extension Manager

4. Now click on the Add button and select the downloaded Sun Presentation
Minimizer extension from the location in your hard drive (it is an .oxt file)
and click on the Open button

5. In the subsequent dialog, select the option for all users

6. You will be presented with an Extension Software License Agreement dialog -
Scroll down and click on Accept

7. You will receive three error messages one after the other (As you click Ok
on one of the error message, you will get the next one), the error messages are
seen in the attachments. Click Ok for all the three error messages and click on
the Close button present in the Extension Manager window.

8. Close Open Office Impress and then restart your computer

9. After the computer has restarted, launch Open Office Impress

You will get a Fatal Error message as seen in the attachment.
Try launching any other Open Office software: Writer, calc etc. You will
receive the same Fatal Error message as seen in the attachment.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the software also does not solve the issue.
Repair installation also does not solve the issue.

Only way to bring open office back to original state(state without Presentation
Minimizer but operational) is by doing the following:
If Open Office Quick Starter icon is present in your tray: Exit the Quick
starter
1. Delete the open office folder present in the application data
Path: C:\documents and settings\[User name]\Application Data\OOo-dev (for
OOoDevm87)

2. Delete the Open Office folder from Program files
Path: C:\Program Files\OOo-dev 3 (for OOoDevm87)

3. Launch Open Office Installer and in the installation screen, select the
option Remove and remove the Open Office completely. Then install the open
office using the open office installer.

Again adding the Sun Presentation Minimizer Extension through Extension Manager
and restarting the computer will reproduce the same issue

Additional Follow up Test:

Tested adding the same extension: Sun Presentation Minimizer - 1.0.1-Win32Intel
with the current stable version of Open Office: OOo320m18 (Build: 9502) to
ensure the stability of the extension and it is found to be working.

Observations:

http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/PresentationMinimizer
Here in the website, it states : Compatible with: OpenOffice.org 2.3
Though I was able to use the extension without any problem with Open Office 3.2
current stable version: Ooo320m18 (Build:9502). Is there any newer version of
Sun Presentation Minimizer for Windows out and if yes then where can it be
downloaded from. I could not find it listed anywhere in the Official Extensions
Repository.
The issue faced seems to be the same as the bug report referenced below, but
this is happening with Windows Environment. Also, the Fatal Error is a
prominent addition.

Note: Please find the three Error Messages received while trying to add the
Presentation Minimizer extension to Open Office Impress Dev300m87 and also the
Fatal error received while trying to launch Open Office after a restart as
attachments below
