Should the EPUB export get implemented, I suggest similar form to be displayed
as with PDF, with some conversion options available.
According to this great guide http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/52 

one of them (enabled by default) should be the "Discard spaces and tabs
beginning the paragraph".

If the paragraph begins with one or more spaces or tabs, they will be discarded
during export processing (but not in originating document).
