Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 111541
B/I/U buttons - PL translaction
Last modified: 2014-02-25 19:46:06 UTC
Hope you can help. There's that annoying idea to "translate" the bold/italic/underline buttons (std toolbar) in PL translation. What we get is G/K/P instead of universal B/I/U. I'm not sure if it applies to all translations, that's only my assumption. Why it's so annoying? A lot of users need to spend a moment considering what should they click.

Before proceeding with any change, I would like you to discuss this within the PL Community and find a common agreement. From the localization perspective, what I can say is that the buttons can and should be localized.
Well, the Polish version of MS Office has those buttons left in their English version, but it seems simply a case when they try to be consistent. I cannot see any reason why we should leave it in English, frankly speaking. We also haven't received any complaints from confused users. Probably it's just one user that found it hard to understand, and he's free to use the non-localized version. I suggest to close this as invalid. The only argument for the proposed change is that keyboard shortcuts are Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U & Ctrl+B, respectively, just like in MS Office. Yet, these are for advanced users and work in most office apps I know.
