Description mbourne 2010-06-25 11:59:41 UTC
The toolbar icons for selecting text, highlight and background colours behave
inconsistently.

1. Writer Text colour and Highlight colour:
Icon shows the last colour chosen.
On clicking the button, that colour is applied.
On clicking the arrow, a pallet is displayed to choose a different colour.

2. Impress Text colour:
Icon shows the colour of the currently selected text.
On clicking the button, nothing happens.
On clicking the arrow, a pallet is displayed to choose a different colour.

3. Writer Background colour, Calc Background colour:
Icon shows the colour of the currently selected text.
On clicking the button, a pallet is displayed to choose a different colour.
On clicking the arrow, a pallet is displayed to choose a different colour.

The behaviour described in 1 seems most useful, as it allows the same colour to
be applied again. While it could be argued that case 3 is logical as the toolbar
shows the state of the currently selected text, that is not productive in
practice as the same colour is often needed again.

In any case, all these buttons should behave consistently.

While trying to replicate this, I was able to reproduce 1 and 2. However, when I tried to replicate condition 3, when I clicked the button it did nothing, and choosing the arrow still brought up the pallet. I am using Windows 7 and OOo dev 3.0.

I just installed the latest (3.3.0) en-GB version on a Windows 2000 virtual machine, and still see the same behaviour as I originally reported against 3.2.1 in all three cases. 3.0 is almost 3 years old, I think, so perhaps the behaviour of these buttons changed since that version. Either way, buttons for similar functions behave inconsistently.

Apologies for the delayed reply. I haven't been able to add a comment here, same problem as described in Issue #117094. Just trying the workaround suggested there (going via the "add attachment" option rather than directly adding a comment).

Test comment, to see if Issue #117094 is still a problem...

It seems this is the same behavior in Calc/Draw/Impress, which is different from Writer, that remembers the last selected font color.
