Hi folks.

Normally if you have a writer document based on a template, and you make changes
to the template, the next time the document is opened you will be asked if you
want to update it to reflect the changes. If you choose to do this, the changes
to the template will be applied to your document. Nice.

However, it seems that if you change outline numbering in a template, this
change is NOT reflected in any documents which use that template. Writer DOES
notice that the template has changed and presents the usual dialogue, but the
outline numbering in the document does NOT change. I consider this to be a bug.

I've discussed this on the forum (URL attached).

I've attached a zip file (Example.zip) containing files which show this bug.
This contains the following:

Test template.ott
A template which is basically the default template with outline numbering
applied to heading 1 and heading 2.

doc created before template change.odt
A document based on this template BEFORE the template was changed to also
include outline numbering for heading 3. Upon opening this document after the
template change, OOo detected the template change and I choose to update the
document to reflect the changes. Note that the outline numbering template change
is NOT reflected in this document.

New doc from updated template.odt
A document created from the template after the change. Note that it DOES contain
numbering on the heading 3 style.

This says to me that outline numbering IS stored in the template, but changes to
it are NOT applied to existing documents linked to the template. I think this is
a bug.

In the short term, if someone could suggest a macro to copy outline numbering
settings form the template to the document, I'd be most grateful.

If any more information is required please let me know.

Best regards,
Richard.

Added "numbering" keyword after reading
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Writer/Numbering.

MRU->OD: can confirm this. The outline rule will not be updated when it has been
changed in the template of a derived document.
Other lost styles will be updated correctly, so I think it is time to be
consistent ;-)
