Description murz 2010-07-09 12:18:08 UTC
How to reproduce:
1. Create the template file in Writer, name it as "file1.ott" (or odt in Calc).
2. Create normal file, file2.odt.
2. Close openoffice.
3. Open openoffice, open the template file "file1.ott", it has opened in window
named "Untitled 1".
4. Open file "file2.odt".
After that you lost the window with opened file "file1.ott" named "Untitled 1".

I could successfully replicate the bug reported.

Configuration Used:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit)
Processor: AMD Athlon II Dual-Core M300 2.00GHz

Open Office Ver & Build: Version 3.2.1
OOO320m18 (Build: 9502)

I was able to replicate the issue mentioned by “murz” above. To reproduce the
bug, simply follow the steps:

1)	Create and save a new template file. Make a note what kind the template it is
- meaning, is it a Text Template, Presentation Template, Spreadsheet Template etc.
2)	Create and save a document of the same kind as in step 1. (i.e. a simple text
document if the template was a Text Template).
3)	Exit OpenOffice and launch a fresh application.
4)	Open the template first. Followed by the document created in step 2.
Bug: The template first opened will be replaced with the document instead of
having two different open office applications opened.

Further Analysis:

1)	If the same step as above were followed but instead had two same type
documents (i.e. two text documents or two presentation documents etc), then we
would have two different open office application open.
2)	If we first opened a text document, followed by a text template document then
we would have different applications open. BUT, if this was followed by opening
of another text document then the template would be replaced with this second
text document. (still have two applications open instead of three).
3)	Now, if we open a template from the default list available with v3.2.1 (which
are all Presentation Template Documents) and then open a “Text Document”, we
will have two different applications. (Correct behavior)
4)	If in step 3, if we open a Presentation Document instead of a Text Document,
we see the bug again.
With step 4, it can be summarized that the bug is shown if we open a template
followed by a document which is of the same “type” (text, presentation,
spreadsheet etc) as the template.

Work around:
A template is generally used due to fill in the information and re-use a
particular style or format. Hence, open the template and save it instantly as a
document with type as that of the template (i.e. if the template was a
Presentation Template Document then save it as Presentation Document). All the
style and format are already incorporated in this newly saved file and this will
allow to open other multiple documents of the same type without any issues.

This issue is not very important because there is an easy work around/solution
for it.
