Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 113079
no module will run - "Repeated allocation of very large block"
Last modified: 2010-07-21 11:10:54 UTC
Using OOo_3.2.0_LinuxX86-64_install_wJRE_en-US.tar.gz Using the command line (trying to get SOME indication of what is happening - the same thing occurs when starting via a menu item) to start the programs. Attempting to run ANY of them produces: $ oocalc ** (soffice:27404): WARNING **: unable to get gail version number GC Warning: Repeated allocation of very large block (appr. size 262144000): May lead to memory leak and poor performance. GC Warning: Repeated allocation of very large block (appr. size 1048576000): May lead to memory leak and poor performance. This immediately brings the system to a crawl consuming all memory and swap (several gigabytes of each). The application never appears (eventually, I have to kill it, of course).
Please be more detailed. What operating system are you using? Have you tried that with native OOo 3.2.1 (http://download.openoffice.org/index.html)?
> Please be more detailed. Let me know what you need. > What operating system are you using? I don't mean to be flip, but it should be obvious (from the file) that I am using x86_64 linux. > Have you tried that with native OOo 3.2.1 (http://download.openoffice.org/ index.html)? I hadn't before. Just tried it with the same results: $ oocalc GC Warning: Repeated allocation of very large block (appr. size 131072000): May lead to memory leak and poor performance. GC Warning: Repeated allocation of very large block (appr. size 524288000): May lead to memory leak and poor performance. Maybe it is supposed to be encouraging that the program is only allocating blocks half the size as before, but that is not enough to get it to run.
Did you remove all of you OOo files that have been installed previous with your Linux distribution? What Linux distribution are you using? Have you tried to rename/remove your .openoffice.org directory in your $HOME?
> Did you remove all of you OOo files that have been installed > previous with your Linux distribution? No (both the OS and OOo were new installs). > What Linux distribution are you using? Gentoo. > Have you tried to rename/remove your .openoffice.org > directory in your $HOME? I hadn't, but we have a winner (meaning that suggestion solved the problem). THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Was there some way I was supposed to know to do that? I will mark this as invalid (although it seems there is SOME kind of bug here). Unfortunately, I just blew away the files without saving the bad copies, so now I couldn't reproduce it if I tried. Thanks again.
