Description gerdl 2010-07-27 21:04:24 UTC
there comes only 1 printout, if you select more than one print.
W764
Printing over net on an HP Printer attached to another computer in the network.
directly calling the printer submenu and changing the counts of printing has no
effect, only 1 print every time you call printing.
in addidion printing is rather slow.
Comment 1 vitriol 2010-07-28 06:27:29 UTC
Same behavior with OOO330m2 under Win Vista, "Number of copies" option is
ignored if there is only one page in the document. Tested even with a virtual
PDF printer.
Regression from 3.2.1
Comment 2 Rainer Bielefeld 2010-07-28 06:36:05 UTC
NOT reproducible with "Ooo-Dev 3.3.0 multilingual version English UI WIN XP:
[DEV330m1 (Build 9514)]" and HP OJ 6110 or OKIpage14ex (both directly over USB)!
I will check print over network soon.

My test
1. Start OOo 3
2. Create new WRITER document
3. Type a single word
4. Menu 'File -> Print -> General - Printer = OJ6110 - No of copies=2'
   <Print>
5. expected : Page will be printed 2 times
   actual: as expected

@gerdl:
What does "W764" mean?
Do you really only see that with WRITER documents or also with CALC , DRAW?
Please contribute a detailed step bay step instruction!
Comment 3 vitriol 2010-07-28 06:50:50 UTC
@rainerbielefeld
I can see this behavior in all application (Writer, Calc, Draw). One page
document is printed only one time. If the document has two or more pages is
printed correctly if the option "Collate" is checked.
Comment 4 Rainer Bielefeld 2010-07-28 08:10:18 UTC
I can confirm all observations in comments from vitriol, but only for FreePDF.
The problem seems to be printer (driver) related.My other "real" printers do not
show the problem.

Currently it seems that there might be affected only printers, but it's a
serious, very visible problem. My opinion: 3.3 blocker

@vitriol, gerdl:
What printers do you use?
Comment 5 vitriol 2010-07-28 08:20:09 UTC
@rainerbielefeld
Hardware printer: HP LaserJet 1005 -> No problem
Virtual printer: BullZip PDF Printer -> Bug
Comment 6 Olaf Felka 2010-07-28 08:21:57 UTC
Please have a look.
Comment 7 michael.ruess 2010-07-28 11:25:57 UTC
I tried with a directly connected Brother MFC on Win7-64 - no problem. I will
try tomorrow on a network printer.

MRU->GerdL: did this already happen in OOo 3.2 or is this a new problem?

Comment 9 Oliver Brinzing 2010-07-28 17:15:33 UTC
can confirm the problem with oo33m1 on vista 32 and FreePDF
Virtual Printer ( FreePDF 4.02)
no copies are printed

no problems so far with oo32/oo321

i remember prior version of oo33 crashed, if i tried to print copies...

Comment 11 gerdl 2010-07-28 20:24:15 UTC
correct function with 3.2.1 and the prior versions and the old print dialog.

now with version 330m2 and win7 64 bit:
just one print
1. same behaviour with calc prints
2. same with win7 32 bit on a netbook
3. directly to a printer (HP 4000TN) with hp universal print driver via usb to
parallel cable; same behaviour
4. not marking collate:
the wanted prints are coming, but they are sortet not collate
5. not marking collate:
duplex-printing is working, printing pages 1-2 1-2 3 3
my result:
when marking collate more than 1 prints doesn`t work.

but same behaviour when printing with adobe reader:
read in a pdf document with more than one pages
try to print the actual page for two times
only 1 pages comes from the hp-Printer
????
i know this behaviour about the last 5 years
Comment 12 Rainer Bielefeld 2010-07-29 09:55:40 UTC
Also NOT reproducible with "Ooo-Dev 3.3.0 multilingual version English UI WIN XP:
[DEV330m1 (Build 9514)]" and HP DeskJet 715 connected to an other WIN XP PC via
network.
Comment 13 michael.ruess 2010-07-29 12:43:04 UTC
MRU->PL: could you please have a look. I cannot confirm, that printing copies
does not work in general. The only thing I can see is, that disabling the option
"Collate" does not have an influence - printing multiple copies will ALWAYS be
collated.
Maybe this is the reason why on some printers copies won't print...?
Comment 14 philipp.lohmann 2010-07-29 13:43:51 UTC
Should we expect a PDF "printer" to actually honor the copy count ? This has
(not quite) worked in the past because OOo implemented copies by actually
printing a page multiple times instead of telling the driver to do copies, but
is not the behavior I'd expect of a PDF printer in the first place (what good
would five identical pages in a PDF be ?).

Regarding the HP400TN: if it doesn't work when printing from acrobat reader
either, I'd say that is a driver problem.

All I can say that 2 copies work exactly as expected, collated or not collated,
on the two printer available to me (Xerox DocuPrint N24 and Xerox WorkCentre
232). This was using Windows 7, 64bit and OOO330m1.
Comment 15 philipp.lohmann 2010-07-29 15:00:49 UTC
Now found an HP 960c where the collate/no collate problem exists; however no problems with copy count.
Comment 16 philipp.lohmann 2010-07-30 13:53:15 UTC
Observed:
HP960C
- on Windows 7 (64bit) - works as expected (collate/not collate)
- on Windows XP - did not work as expected; the driver claims to only support 1
copy per job and in this case our code (manually doing the copying) would always
output collated
-> fixed in CWS ooo33gsl04

Any printer on MacOS
- using native dialog - works as expected
- NOT using native dialog - did not work as expected, output would always be
collated
-> fixed in CWS ooo33gsl04
Comment 17 philipp.lohmann 2010-07-30 14:32:29 UTC
As for FreePDF: I installed it and debugged; the printer driver claims to
support 9999 copies here, so OOo sets the copycount and sends every page once.
The resulting document holds only one copy. This is what I expected from a PDF
printer; of course for every real printer that would be a bad bug.

All three printers I have access to print the stated amount of copies from
Windows 7, so I cannot reproduce the "single page document does not work with
copy count" problem. Any ideas for how to treat that are welcome.
Comment 18 philipp.lohmann 2010-08-02 11:55:30 UTC
Should anyone still have a problem with the copy count one can use the "create
single jobs for collated output" checkbox on the "Options" TabPage of the print
dialog as a workaround; this will produce N print jobs for N copies. Caution
though, if you use banner pages, then for each job of course a banner page will
appear.

Again, if someone still has problems with the copy count, for 3.4 another option
could be done doing copies always "manually" in a single print job, which would
take longer to print of course.

fixed the collation issues in CWS ooo33gsl04
Comment 19 philipp.lohmann 2010-08-02 12:05:09 UTC
please verify in CWS ooo33gsl04
Comment 20 michael.ruess 2010-08-05 10:25:43 UTC
Verified in CWS ooo33gsl04.
Comment 21 michael.ruess 2010-08-24 16:21:57 UTC
Checked fix in OOO300m5.
