Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 114051
OS level - "select all" in dialog boxes
Last modified: 2013-10-12 06:48:53 UTC
When using Writer or Calc, Draw, Impress, or Base, one can select boxes for changing the font or other options. Upon doing so, the default behavior is to type in the box after the text. Rather than doing a dropdown menu to change the font, I often begin typing the name of the font I would like to use. To get rid of the old font name, I usually press the Cmd-A (aka Apple-A) to select all the text in the field selected, then press the delete key. The Cmd-A key does not function in these dialog boxes, that is to say, nothing happens in Writer, Draw, Impress, or Base. In Calc, when trying to do this, it selects all the cells in the spreadsheet. You can still delete the entire contents by holding down the delete key, backspacing to the beginning of the cell. The Cmd-A does not function in the "File - Save" dialog either, so when you want to replace the default title "Untitled", you are required to backspace over the entire contents, which is quite cumbersome if you are saving a new version of an old file with a long filename. Overall, it is more than annoying and can add up to a significant amount of time wasted and errors committed-- I have encountered this bug at least a hundred times, so I assume others who navigate as I do also have seen this issue. Please contact me if you have any questions about the bug. Cheers.
This failure was able to be reproduced to using Osx mountain Lion. Steps 1. create new document 2. file->save as 3. press cmd+a to select "untitled.doc" 4. press delete to remove untitled.doc. nothing will happen. It doens't register that the user has used a keyboard short cut to select all text. additional testing should be done one linux and microsoft platforms.
