Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 115992
Pages per sheet, landscape page
Last modified: 2013-08-30 15:35:16 UTC
Hello, Steps to reproduce : - open a new writer document (page style is "portrait") - input text on page 1 - open menu Insert > Manual break, choose style "Landscape" - input text on page 2 - open menu Files > Print > tabs "Page Layout", adjust Pages per sheet = 2 -> when print, page n° 2 isn't in landscape style See good expect result here : http://msicreteil.free.fr/ooo/avec%20driver.pdf See bad expect result here : http://msicreteil.free.fr/ooo/avec%20oo.pdf Regards
I confirm the described behaviour, under Linux too.
I confirm on OOoDEV330m17 I confirm this defect on Calc too, if there is one sheet with portrait's style and another sheet with landscape's style.
maybe related to issue 113562 ?
Did this work in 3.2.1?
Did we have the option in 3.2.1 to print more pages per sheet? Not that I am aware. In Writer, not at all. In Calc, per page style one can choose a scaling, which results in more pages on a sheet of paper, but only if the pages are on the same sheet in Calc. To go short: no regression IMO.
SBA -> HI: Please proceed, thx. Put PL on c/c.
You print 2 pages on 1 sheet of paper via page preview in OOo3.2. Click on the icon "Print options page view" in the toolbar "Page Preview". There you can set the layout. And then print out of the Page Preview via the icon "Print Page View" in the toolbar "Page Preview"; do not use File > Print. In the new dialog use the dialog tab "Page Layout". In the drop-down list "pages per sheet" select "Custom". Use "Pages n by k" to distribute the pages on the sheet of paper and use "Orientation" to set the sheet of paper to landscape or portrait. So printing mixed landscape and portrait pages on one sheet of paper is possible in the old version as well as in the new print dialog. But the printing result differs. In the old version the portrait page width and the landscape page width were add. Then a scale was calculated to fit the sum to the width of the sheet of paper. So each page has the same scale, but the divider was not in the middle of the sheet of paper. In the new dialog the sheet of paper is divided according the layout setting and then each page is scaled individually to its part of the sheet of paper.
Addition: If you want the landscape page turned 90 degrees in printing, then export the document to pdf and use the Acrobat Reader for printing. Such "automatically rotation" would be a nice feature for OOo too.
.
Is definitely not defect! Changed to enhancement I'll attach a workaround

"Is definitely not defect! Changed to enhancement" oh, having a feature working as it is supposed to do is an enhancement ! if a printer driver has this feature, it works fine ! maybe my problem is with my english dictionary.... IMHO if a user try to use this feature with a long documents that have many mixing pages, and if he print it many times for his students (oops that what i did few days ago) he will be quite angry i believe if it's not possible to make it work, it would be better not having this feature, so that we must use the driver feature (of course, IMHO)
@regina: thanks for pointing to that feature. I can print more pages per sheet from Writer in 321 and 330rc8. Both are a bit different. But none is like the example 'avec driver.pdf' from jeff. (might still be my lack off experience, I just report)
@cornouws: Up to now OOo is not able to rotate the page, neither in old nor in new print dialog. Therefore this issue is an enhancement request. But try the workaround with pdf. If you need details, mail me.
It's DEFECT, because the new printbox automatically rotate the page. You must use text frame to simulate landscape style. In pdf software, or in the option of printer's driver, if you print many pages per sheet with many orientation, the orientation don't change.
@regina so, if i understand, the feature implemented wasn't suppose to rotate the pages so that they fit the whole page ? .. another try : if your first page is landscape and all the other pages are portrait. then, when printing two pages per sheet, all the portraits pages will be shrink twice
@regina: thanks for offering help. Is ok for now. @all: is a feature 'defect' per definition, if it does not serve all wishes?
as i was trying difference mixing orientations,as i was bored with filling pages with text, i decided to make a border on the page. and then, using the printer box preview, the border can be seen with one page per sheet but disappear with two pages per sheet.. but can be seen (only the bottom) with four pages per sheet, and with 6 pages per sheet, only left and top.... when printing all is good (except orientation ;o)) another issue ?
> as i was trying difference mixing orientations,as i was bored with > filling pages with text, i decided to make a border on the page. I've send you my testfile per mail (also handy: borders on the page) > and then, using the printer box preview, the border can be seen with one > page per sheet but disappear with two pages per sheet.. but can be seen > (only the bottom) with four pages per sheet, and with 6 pages per sheet, > only left and top.... > > when printing all is good (except orientation ;o)) > > another issue ? Of course. The printing window is new, so there will be quite some issues to solve. A pity that when asked/noted about the availability of the new functionality, to test, so little response came. Also me: I had the first look at it only in beta 2 or so. Months after the initial request :-\ That makes work for the devs harder too.
seeing that feature freeze and branch off is today, this is not going to make 3.4. Adjusting target.
Please see http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=430078#430078 I'm not entirely sure this is the same bug. But sounds like it. Steps to reproduce: 1. Format page to landscape, 5.50" x 8.50" on letter size 2. Fill a couple pages with text 3. Go to Print>Page Layout & select 2 Pages Per Sheet 4. Print.... the result is shrunk. I have posted a workaround in the thread above. It seems that if you set the Printer Settings>Options to Brochure but do NOT set Page Layout to Brochure, you can then set Pages per Sheet to Custom and manually give it two per page. Prints normal size.
