Description 45678912 2010-12-10 03:22:18 UTC
Hello,

When I pass an animation in a file at format .PPTX during the presentation, if I
do it fast (pressing fast the Enter key of the keyboard), some glitches show up
at the image... if I do it slowly (Pressing Enter and wait until the animation
finish it's run), the glitches don't show up...

How to Reproduce the Error:

1 - Press F5 (to start Presentation mode)

2 - Pass fast through the animations of the file (press Enter without waiting
until the Animation has completely finished)

PS: I do pass through the animation in the fast manner described above with the
Microsoft Office Power Point 2007 and these errors don't show up... So it makes
me believe that it's a bug in the OO...

Thanks for your attention,

André M.

K. Phillip-Jackson 2011-09-24

Replicated the bug using OOO 3.3.0 Build: 9567 for Mac OSX

System used:

MacBook
2.4 GHZ core 2 duo processor
4 GB ram
Mac OSX
MS PowerPoint 2011 (Mac OSX)

Steps for replication:

1.	Open .pptx file attached by original reporter in Open Office Impress
2.	Press f5 in order to start the slideshow
3.	Press enter in rapid successions (5 per second) and view the how the images change
4.	Re-run the slideshow again while pressing enter slowly and view how the images change

Observations:

Screen froze for a couple seconds, before transitioning to the other slide.
(Small glitch between transitions)
Ran the program without any other program running in the background and results were the same as when running program with other programs.
The program only reacted when enter was pressed rapidly, reaction was not seen when enter was pressed slowly.

Further Tests:

1.Tested other . pptx files in Open Office
2.Re did replication steps but this time opened .pptx file in Microsoft PowerPoint
3. Tested .odp files in Open Office
4. Test the slideshows with different transitions

Observations:

This behavior continued in open office with every .pptx file used and the .odp files as well. When PowerPoint was used for testing, no glitch was observed.
The glitch is observed as soon as you begin to rapidly move through the slideshow, from the first slide onwards. After changing the transitions, the glitch was seen easier. The more extravagant the transition was the greater the glitch and the longer the pause between transitions.

Could not reproduce on v3.3.0 b9567. Windows 7 Home x64 with SP1.

Using the attached presentation, no misbehavior (or “glitches” as used in the original comment) was seen. This includes no observable delay between transitions.

A follow-up test I created myself also passed. I created a PPTX presentation with five different shapes (arrow, elbow arrow, smiley face, parallelogram, lightning bolt) animated in five different ways (box, blinds, checkerboard, diamond, fly in) and opened it in Impress. There were no problems when skipping over these animations.

Configuration:
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64bit) bootcamped on MacBook Pro w/Retina
Mac OS side: OS X 10.8.4
2.3GHz Intel Core i7 processor
16GB RAM
Solid State Drive

Version on both OSes: AOO 3.4.1m1 build 9593 Rev. 1372282

Overview:
Using the steps described by the original reporter I was able to produce a "glitch" / misbehavior in Open Office 3.4.1 that relates to the attached .PPTX file's animation effects of arrows (slide 7 and forward). However it does not have to do with the speed / delay between transitions of the presentation.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download the reporters attachment
2. Open the .pptx file in PowerPoint 2010 - See how the animations are "supposed" to work.
3. Open the .pptx file in OpenOffice 3.4.1 - Notice upon opening the slide deck the arrows used for the animations have been modified by OpenOffice(see previous step for comparison). Instead of straight lines with arrows, a majority of the lines now have angles making the use of these as visual less effective / accurate.

Observations:
1. The problem / "glitch" is apparent from the opening, before moving into slideshow mode.
2. No noticable "glitch" in the speed of transitions.

Follow up Tests:

1. Created a new .pptx presentation in PowerPoint 2010 called “something here”, added straight arrows with the animation effect of Wipe. Saved and opened in OO 3.4.1 and I see the same bending / angling of arrows as in the attachment.
2. Closed the impress application with the something here.pptx file I create > Re-launch application > Open existing presentation > I get an error when selecting the downloaded attachment “Error loading the template: incorrect format. The file cannot be used as a template”. I will open a separate issue about this.
3. Saved my .pptx presentation as a.ppt presentation using PowerPoint 2010. Opened it in OO 3.4.1 and now there are no problems with the bending / angling of arrows.
4. Repeated the same test on the Mac OS X 10.8.4 side of my MacBook Pro with retina (see the rest of the configuration info) on the same version of AOO 3.4.1m2 Build 9593 Rev 1372882, this time I noticed the lag that K. Phillip-Jackson sort of mentions but no problems with transitions. Still seem the same angling problem of the arrows.

Observations:

1. The "glitch" is only a problem with .pptx files with animation, not .ppt files.
2. This may not be the exact same glitch as originally reported but certainly fits with the description and most of the steps. If not I'd be happy to open a new similar issue.

Impact:
This "glitch" is likely to impact an increasing number of users since it pertains to the newer format of Microsoft PowerPoint files (2007 and later).
