Description rcabane 2003-02-18 21:16:36 UTC
It seems that Writer can't preserve this special formatting when writing HTML
files. Although, the CSS specification allows this, by means of the
"line-spacing" format (given in percentage, not in points).
Adding this to the HTML export would be quite simple.

Thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Robert, could you please attach a file that demonstrates this problem
or at least list the steps to reproduce this problem?

OK I checked the CSS specs.
You can specify by points (pt).
Please look the the enclosed documents:
* expand.sxw -> test file with styles
* expand.html -> exported file from OO.o 1.1b (ignores exp/con spc)
* expand2.html -> modified by hand
I changed the CSS styles P.exp-western & P.con-western, adding the
"letter-spacing" specification.
Works fine with Mozilla & Konqueror.
Just a caveat: the exact character placement will depend of the
navigator, anymay.

Please change the status of this issue to 'STARTED'.

Hi Robert!

Go to "Tools - Options - Load/Save - HTML Compatiblity" and choose as
export "MSIE" or "OOo Writer" before saving.
Comment 6 eric.savary 2003-06-30 17:04:01 UTC
ES->BH: Mozilla and the current version of Netscape know this
"letter-spacing" attribute. So the the Netscape export filter should
know it too.
Comment 7 rcabane 2003-07-01 18:22:04 UTC
I agree with ES & BH remarks.
At present, the "letter-spacing" attribute is ignored by HTML 3.2 and
Netscape exports, and respected by MSIE and OOW exports.
It seems that the Netscape export respects quite old Netscape
standard; now Mozilla does quite a lot more...
Comment 8 eric.savary 2003-07-03 11:24:48 UTC
Yes but OOo has no "Mozilla" filter qo we keep focused on Netscape.
Comment 9 eric.savary 2003-07-03 11:44:46 UTC least, Netscape 7.0 supports this. But not Netscape 4.7.9
Comment 10 rcabane 2003-07-03 14:08:58 UTC
The "no Mozilla filter" is the problem, since Netscape could disappear
(for commercial reasons) and Mozilla continue its way.
Incidentally, the Netscape 4.7 slowly goes behind since NS 6 & NS 7
are viable.
I insist on supporting the NS/Moz branch since they're the ONLY
browsers usable on ANY platform (Unix, Winx, Mac).
On the other side, other Linux browser's (like konqueror) behaviour
are quite close to IE but this last point should be checked.

This issue is considered for 'Office later' as HTML export is not a
keyfeature for OO.o 2.0.
