Description aldo4343 2011-02-09 08:39:52 UTC
I appreciate it is not the 'original usage' of presentation tools, but one
thing that teachers and professors are now suggesting to students is that they
use powerpoint to 'take notes' during lectures. This is because Ppt has a
useful split screen interface to take notes on while a teacher is giving the
lecture that the student can have open. The interface on impress as it stands
is unsuitable for doing this as it is too small and the additional white space
on the display takes away needless viewing and writing space. The interface in
this is one of the main reasons, IMO, for the success of ppt over impress (and
apple alternatives) and at the moment it is hindering my will to leave MS
behind. This is not a criticism, but a suggestion for further development. I
looked for other posts of similar type, but the only similar one was badly
written and 'closed.' Pleeeeease have a look at student usability interface in
impress?
Many thanks

Aldo

Thank you for your suggestion. I compared Impress and MS PPT and also find the advantage of PPT:

In normal page view of PPT, user can drag the border between slide panel and notes panel to resize the two panel, this is very convenient. While in Impress there is no such a function.

In Impress, user can switch to Note view to read/write notes, but as described by aldo4343, the original size is too small to do this. Though user can use View->Zoom to resize the page, it's inconvenient to use.

In Symphony there is a similar notes panel in normal view. Hope it will be merged into Impress.
