Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 117175
Impress does not properly display powerpoint slide
Last modified: 2014-07-16 14:02:31 UTC
Created attachment 75976 [details] PowerPoint vs OpenOffice Impress does not display text in a PowerPoint (pptx) document correctly. The text is not displayed in the correct spot. Some of the text in the slide overlaps other text. I have sent the original PowerPoint document and a sort of before and after picture comparing PowerPoint Viewer's presentation of a slide to OpenOffice's presentation of the same slide. The slide I used is slide number three. I am using build 9567 of OpenOffice.
Reproducible. Reassigned.
(Aleksander Lipski, 19/01/2011) I have confirmed above behavior using: Win XP SP2 AMD Turion 64-Mobile 1,58 Mhz 1GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon OOo Impress DEV300m99(Build:9570) Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 (or PowerPoint Viewer 2007) <b>Steps to reproduce:</b> 1. Lunch Microsoft PowerPoint(or PowerPoint Viewer) 2. Open attached overlaping_textfields_1.pptx file 3. Lunch OOo Impress 4. Open attached overlaping_textfields_1.pptx file 5. Compare 1st slide look between MPP (or PPV) and OOoI <b>Results:</b> Same placeholder in same slide is displayed with different dimension between OOoI and MPP. Therefore in OOoI the text in left placeholder overlaps the text in right placeholder. It is visible in both Edit and Slide Show mode. <b>Comments:</b> This behaviour is reproducible using 3rd slide from the original attachment : Chapter3_Jan_2011 DAB.pptx presentation. Based on this slide I have isolated the problem - I have copied he problematic 3rd slide, then removed all the objects from this slide which weren’t affecting inappropriate behaviour. In attached overlapping_placeholders_1.pptx file there is just one slide with 2 sentences inside 2 placeholders only. I couldn’t replicate this bug from the scratch using new presentation. <b>Follow-up to above bug</b> I noticed also interesting behavior with following steps: 1. Duplicate 1st slide in overlapping_placeholders_1.pptx presentation using MPP. 2. On 2nd slide (duplicated one), move the left placeholder in either direction with the lowest possible step. 3. Save the presentation in MPP (in my case: overlapping_placeholders_2.pptx) 4. Open the overlapping_placeholders_2.pptx in OOoI and compare 1st slide with 2nd slide On the 1st slide the left placeholder overlaps the right placeholder, however on the 2nd slide (where the left placeholder was slightly moved) the placeholders are displayed correctly (comparing to MPP) See 2_slides_different_look.png attachment. I opened the overlapping_placeholders_2.pptx file with WinRar program and compared the xml files (I used Notepad++) for both slides i.e. overlaping_placeholders_2.pptx\ppt\slides\slide1.xml and overlaping_placeholders_2.pptx\ppt\slides\slide2.xml The only difference I noticed is in the definition of "Rectangle 3" placeholder. The 2nd slide (slide where the placeholders doesn't overlap) contains additional attributes comparing to 1st slide where there is lack of such attributes : <p:spPr><a:xfrm><a:off x="533400" y="1589314"/><a:ext cx="3810000" cy="4648200"/></a:xfrm></p:spPr> It looks that when placeholders don’t have above attributes in source file, the OOoI interprets the dimension of this placeholders in different way than the MPP does.
Created attachment 76013 [details] overlaping_placeholders_1.pptx Just one slide with 2 sentences inside 2 placeholders to simply replicate the bug
Created attachment 76014 [details] overlapping_placeholders_2.pptx Presentation with 2 similar slides where the bug exist on the one of the slide only.
Created attachment 76015 [details] 2_slides_different_look.png Screenshot with comparison of 2 similar slides where only one is incorrectly displayd.
I was able to reproduce this using aleetesting's provided PowerPoint documents on a Windows 7 machine with build 9582. Using attachment from: https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=117175#c4 Produced identical behavior shown in: https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=117175#c5

reproduced on XP SP3 against Aoo_trunk 1376366 using aleetesting's pptx files
