Description minubiju 2011-08-17 02:47:59 UTC
1.Create a new presentation file with some contents in it.
2.Let there be more than one spelling(F7) correction needed.
3.After correcting the first spelling a dialog box with the message
"Spell check of entire document has been completed" is displayed which is a bug.Because there are more spellings to be corrected.
Comment 1 Ray 2011-09-17 11:51:08 UTC
Could you provide more information like version of OO, language and attach the document itself?
Comment 2 Nancy 2011-09-18 00:13:20 UTC
I was able to replicate this bug using a Windows Vista Home SP 2 machine with Version OOo-dev 3.4.0. Build:9583.

I have attached the same file I used to reproduce this bug.

First Symptom of this Bug:
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new slide presentation with 2 slides. (Or use the presentation attached and skip steps 1 – 3).
2. Change the layout of the both slides to “Title and 2 Content”.
3. Type incorrectly spelt words into the Title, Left Content, and Right Content text boxes of both slides.
4. Invoke Spellcheck with the Right Content box on slide 2 still selected.
5. Accept the changes Spellcheck suggests.

Expected Results: Spellcheck checks the entire document and makes spelling corrections.

Actual Results: Spellcheck only checks the text in the Right Content box and says it is done, even though there are more errors in the presentation. The remainder of the errors in the document are ignored.

Another Symptom of this Bug:
1. Use the same presentation file as the previous bug.
2. Undo the spelling corrects that may have been done in the first test.
3. With the last slide displayed, de-select all text boxes so none are selected. (Click on an area of the slide where a text box is not located).
4. Invoke Spellcheck and make the corrections it suggests.
5. Spellcheck checks all text boxes on the last slide. Then says it has searched to the end of the presentation and asks the user if they want to continue. Select “Yes”.
6. Spellcheck will continue to the first slide and check the title section in the first slide. Accept the corrections it suggests.
7. After it completes the spell check of the Title Box it informs the user that “Spellcheck of the entire document has been completed”. However this is not true since the Left and Right Content boxes have not yet been checked. Click “OK” to continue.
8. Spellcheck then continues to the Left Content box and continues to check spelling. Accept the corrections spell check suggests.
9. After it completes the spell check of the Left Content Box it informs the user that “Spellcheck of the entire document has been completed”. However this is not true since the Right Content box has not yet been checked. Click “OK” to continue.
10. Spellcheck then continues to the Right Content box and continues to check spelling. Accept the corrections spell check suggests.
11. After it completes the spell check of the Right Content Box it informs the user that “Spellcheck of the entire document has been completed”. This is true. Click “OK” to continue.
12. After clicking “OK” this message, the same message appears again prompting the user to click ok. Click “OK” to continue and the dialogue box and the spell check window both disappear.

Expected Results:
1. Spellcheck should not say that it has completed the document when it hasn’t. (Steps 7&9)
2. Clicking OK on the final dialogue message (In Step 11) should clear the box, not prompt the user with the same dialogue box again.

Sample Presentation Containing Misspellings.

Presentation used for testing described in previous comment.

I was also able to replicate this bug using a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit system with OpenOffice version 3.3.0 (OOO330m20). I followed the exact steps done by the Nancy and experienced the same results that was previously experienced.

It does not appear to be operating system related so far. However, Others input may change this assumption.
Comment 5 Cem Kaner 2011-09-30 19:22:23 UTC
I replicated with Nancy's file and with some variations.

First, when I select one of the text boxes, OOo will correct spelling only within that text box and then tell me that spell-checking of the entire doc has been done. I tried this with the left panel (2 misspelled words) and the right panel (3 misspelled words).

Second, if NO text box is selected, OOo will check the entire document. I tried this starting on the first and third slide of a 3-slide set (based on Nancy's) in which there were spelling errors on all three slides. When I started on the third slide, it asked if I wanted to continue spell-checking at the start of the presentation (I said yes) and then it continued through the first two slides. Thus I only partially replicate the section "Another Symptom of This Bug".

My OOo version is dev 3.4.0 OOO340m0 (Build 9583). Windows 7.

I was able to replicate this bug with a Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 using Ooo-dev 3.4.0 DEV300m106 (Build:9582). Using the sample presentation containing misspellings, I followed Nancy's steps and received similar results.

Spellcheck only checks selected text box but claims to have checked entire document.

Steps to reproduce:
1. download and open sample presentation containing misspellings
2. invoke Spellcheck with right content box on slide 2 selected
3. accept changes until pop up appears displaying: “Spellcheck of entire document has been completed” (which is incorrect, only selected text box has been spell-checked)
4. click “OK'
Spellcheck does not check the rest of the document

Messages displayed during Spellcheck are sometimes incorrect/redundant

Steps to reproduce:
1. download and open sample presentation containing misspellings
2. with the last slide selected, deselect all text boxes
3. invoke Spellcheck and accept changes until pop up appears displaying: “Ooo-dev Impress has searched to the end of the presentation. Do you want to continue at the beginning?”
4. Click “YES”
5. continue to accept changes as Spellcheck continues
6. pop up appears displaying “Spellcheck of entire document has been completed” (incorrect, Spellcheck is not completed)
7. Click “OK”
8. continue to accept changes as Spellcheck continues
9. pop up appears displaying “Spellcheck of entire document has been completed” (incorrect, Spellcheck is not completed)
10. Click “OK”
11. continue to accept changes as Spellcheck continues
12. pop up appears displaying “Spellcheck of entire document has been completed” (correct)
13. Click “OK”
14. pop up appears displaying “Spellcheck of entire document has been completed” (correct, but redundant)
15. Click “OK”

In it's current state Spellcheck could mislead users into thinking their entire document has been spell-checked when it has only been partially spell-checked. Also, users could possibly be confused by some of the incorrect and redundant pop up messages.

Correction or update to comment 5. I later retested my work and confirmed that I could in fact replicate Nancy's reports exactly. I'm not sure whether my failure in Comment 5 was a user (me) error or reflects a subtle reproducibility condition problem. Probably user error. Same build/config as comment 5.

I first tried installing OO about a year ago. After installing it I tried to use the spell check grammer check. It would immediately come up with the dialog box that askes if I want to start from the beginning. When I click yes, it tells me the spell checking is complete but it has not found any errors at all. This is in spite of the fact I am a terrible speller and even intentionally misspelled words to see if they would be caught. It did not catch anything wrong out of a 3 page document and my terrible spelling.
Since this first time I have installed upgraded builds on many occasions but with exactly the same problem.
I am using Windows Home Premium on a Toshiba Stallite L305D-S5974

During this time, I have had to reformat my computer twice for other problems but when I reinstall OO, I still have the same problem.

At this point, OO is proving to be worthless to me.

getting rid of value "enhancement" for field "severity".
For enhancement the field "issue type" shall be used.

I was able to reproduce this bug with the following environment
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
OO Version: AOO340om1(Build:9590) - Rev. 1325589

Steps for reproduction:
1 - Open new blank Presentation document

2 - Click the “Click to add text” label and enter the word “Texass”

3 - Create new slide (Right click the left side bar and select New Slide or use menu options)

4 - Click the “Click to add text” label and enter the word “Tennesseee”

5 - Return to slide 1 and select the text you previously entered (set focus on a text field)

6 - Press F7 on the keyboard to start spell check.

7 - Change or Ignore misspelling

NOTE: After spellcheck of the selected field has completed, you will get a popup notification stating “Spellcheck of entire document has been completed”.

NOTE: This bug does not seem to occur in outline view. If you select slide text and start the spellcheck, it will continue through the outline view.

The critical condition in this bug is for focus to be set on a particular field in a slide. If focus is not set on a field, spell check will continue through each slide and continue to the beginning of the slide deck when the end has been reached.

One other thing of note, in follow up testing, I found that the slide layout is not relevant in reproducing this bug. I was able to reproduce the bug in all layouts as long as focus was set on a text field when spell check was started.

I can confirm this with different steps on XP/Win7 against aoo_trunk 1376366:

1. new an empty template
2. enter at least two misspelled words
3. run spellcheck
4. click "Ignore once", till all misspelled words are ignored, now a message will appears asking whether to from beginning
5. click OK, then spellcheck will check from the beginning, and the first misspelled word will be regarded again
6. click "Change"

the message "Spell check of entire document has been completed" will appear.

while after click Ok button on the message, it will continue to check..
