Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 119154
Spell check does not work with desktop creation of .odt with context sensitive menu.
Last modified: 2012-04-02 09:16:33 UTC
Spell check does not work when you create an .odt document from the context sensitive menu on the windows desktop. I Directly opened the document by double clicking it. Openoffice loaded the file but spell check doesnt seem to work. I copied and pasted the contents into a new file that I created IN openoffice and spell check works. I hope i picked the correct category for this. I downloaded openoffice directly from openoffice.org. The help menu says im using version 3.3 but says nothing about a release candidate and Im not sure what convention you use.
this is a dup of https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=58014 it has been reported several times since 2005...
During installation it is not known, which user will start OpenOffice. So the installer cannot determine the language of the user. You can set the language for you by this steps: Set the explorer to show all folders and files. Goto your user settings. Open folder "Templates". Right click the soffice.odt file and click on "Open". The application should start with this file loaded. Open Styles and Formatting window and the "paragraph" category. Right click style "default" and then "modify". Goto tab "font" and set the desired language in the drop-down list. OK. Save. Close application. You can do the same with the other document templates. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of issue 58014 ***
> So the installer cannot determine the language of the user. but during installation the system language is known, so the installer could create suitable templates. > Goto your user settings. i found the "soffice.odt" in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Vorlagen" (win xp) and in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Templates" (vista)
> but during installation the system language is known, so the installer could create suitable templates. The system locale need not to be the default language of documents. > i found the "soffice.odt" in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Vorlagen" (win xp) That are the settings for all users. It is possible, that one user wants English as default document language and another user wants German. So this is not a good place to set the language in default documents. Goto C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<your account name>\Vorlagen". The documents there belong to your account. If you set the language of the documents there, then it only affects your working with AOO. If there are no such documents you can copy them from "All Users". Templates in your personal folder have precedence over those in the "All Users" folder.
