Description dgweir 2012-07-06 06:00:31 UTC
I am using Windows XP 64bit.
OO3.4 loads OK, but when I try to open a document (new or existing) I get the message "SELECT JRE. The OpenOffice.org configuration has been changed. Under Tools-Options-OpenOffice.org-Java, select the Java runtime environment you want to have used by OpenOffice.org."
The problem then is that 3 (yes 3) alerts come up and only one can be closed by "OK" the other two stay - the only way to get rid of them is to crash the programme and reopen - which simply repeats the error.
I have unistalled 3.4 and reverted to 3.3.0.
What now?

I have been using OO in Mac OS10.9 (and Windows 7 Professional because I have to) for about four months; earlier OO versions for years on Mac 3.9 and earlier versions.

Beginning about a week ago (early May, 2014), I started updating an old OO business plan (text document). I saved my changes on the Mac. (I don't think I tried to save it to DropBox because it does not appear on either computer's DropBox list.)

Now, whenever I try to open OO or an OO document, I get this selection box:

The last time you opened OpenOffice, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?

If you choose not to reopen windows, you may have to open and position the windows yourself.

[Don't Reopen] [Reopen]

Neither choice does anything I can see; I cannot clear the box; I cannot quit OO or do anything except [Hide] or choose [Services]. I have been able to open the document, but cannot save it (OO dropdown window offers save options, but nothing happens).

In all the years I have enjoyed using OO I have never encountered a g;itch even approaching this.

Your problem is explained in the release notes, is a bug known since 3.4, and should be fixed in 4.1 http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues

On recent versions of Mac OS X it might happen, especially after a "Force quit", that the following error message appears: "Restore Windows - The application OpenOffice.org was forced to quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?". If you cannot get rid of it: Option-click the "Go" menu; choose "Library" from the menu to open the folder in the Finder; click on the folder "Saved Application State"; delete the file "org.openoffice.script.savedState". See bug 119006 for more information.
