Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 120729
JRE is Defective
Last modified: 2015-11-24 05:03:50 UTC
No matter what i do. I can not open or start a new database file using OPEN OFFICE BASE. I keep getting JRE is Defective. I can not use Base at all with this bug or error. Most people i know has the same problem as me but i do not see a solution for this.
Can you please provide some more information about you're JRE? is it Java6 or java7? 32 or 64 bit? But I think this issue is a duplicate to issue 119525: https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119525
I am using 64 bits i am using jre7 I can not use Open Office base at all becuz of this bug or error I just think Java is defective and needs to be fixs
Please try with a 32 bit Java version. AOO is a 32 bit Application.
Where can i download 32 bit Java What is do you mean AOO
(In reply to comment #4) > Where can i download 32 bit Java http://www.java.com/en/download/
still does not work for me i still get JRE is defective it says please select another version or install
This seems to be a problem with the newest version of JRE (32bit) on a 64bit os. If you install openoffice on a windows 7 (64bit) or vista (64bit) and you install the newest JRE version 1.7 v9 (32bit), you get this message as soon as open office calls a java function. To install JRE 1.7 as a 64bit version, this does not work either as open office is 32bit software and does not work with java 64bit versions. The only solution is to install the older JRE 1.6 (32bit) version on your 64bit OS and select it under Tools - Options - Java in open office and it works. You can use both java versions 1.6 and 1.7 side by side on your OS. So you can use java 1.7 on your browsers. However, as open office does not work with java 1.7 on 64bit OS is a foolish, because the older java versions have security leaks and malware could harm the system. The developpers should find the problem, that open office has on 64bit OS with java 1.7 so that only the newest java can be used on PC systems.
please note that the solution for this bug has been found: it is a bug in Java 7 that does not install a Windows redistribuable. Simply follow the advice in http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues "Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 support Java 7, which is the recommended configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive warnings about the Java version being defective. In that case, download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.
