Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 12090
Crash on saving text on native format
Last modified: 2003-09-16 17:45:18 UTC
I have upgraded Spanish version 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 to see if the problem of crashing on startup (issue 11220) was solved. The problem is not solved althought it is less severe (see 11220 for details). But a new problem has arosen: whenever I try to save my writting work in the sxw format, I've got the message "An irreparable error has occured. Files have been saved so they might be recovered on startup" (The message is in Spanish, this is an approximate translation). The program then dies off. If I restart the program, a dialog box appears asking if I want to recover the lost file: if I answer yes, OK, the text is there but again I cannot save it. I have tried to save it in a different format (DOC, snif!) and this does work, so the problem seems to appear only with sxw.
Hello again. I have started the program as root and, for my surprise, I was able to save documents normally. After that I have entered again as a "people" user and the problem seems to have dissapeared. Apartently, the first time that the program tries to save a document, it must write something in a file or directory that is not "people-writable". I do not know if I can consider this bug as "fixed" after this. I think it should be considered for future versions of OpenOffice.
I have the same problem with SuSU 8.1, in English. Since upgrade from 1.0.1, Unable to save under SXW format, I get an "unrecoverable error"; upon restart the file can be restored. Only way to save is as DOC ...
Also, does OpenOffice1.1beta solve the problem? Please let us know. If not, can you perhaps capture a stack trace and upload it here? See http://kegel.com/openoffice for how.
This migt be the same problem as disdussed in issue 10250 starting with ------- Additional Comments From Damyankee 2003-01-24 05:40 PST ------- ? Rainer
Hello all. This problem is most likely due to a partial installation of OOo. From the sounds of it, a network install may have been performed, but an user install wasn't. Please ensure that OOo is installed properly.
set to WFM due the last comment of PM
